I use bought cloth pads, and flushable eco friendly disposable pads.
I mostly only use cloth pads really. I did use disposable pads when I was 15-16 1/2 I found they gave me rashes and my periods went for longer with them. It was costing over 10 dollars a month, I really disliked my period. I now use cloth and I find it cheaper and more comfortable, my periods are shorter, lighter and less painful.
I am happy with what I am using currently.:)
I use tampons, They are way more hygenic...I think they are anyway, Ide hate to sit in my own blood. Yuuk, When I got my first period my mum made me use pads for the first cycle, then I had to use tampons. I havent use a pad since.

I am building up a cloth pad stash and I am very happy with the switch. I used to have my period for at least 7 days with extreme cramping (couldn't walk, fainting, vomiting) but this last cycle was the first time I used all cloth and I have come down to 4 days with only one day of pain which was nowhere near as bad as it has always been :smiliedance:

They are way more hygenic...I think they are anyway,
actully tampons are incredibly unhygienic!
not to mention the damage they do to the inside of the vagina by soaking up not just blood but all the naturally occurring fluids that it produces.
try a Diva Cup!
no risk of tts or any nasty places for bacteria to mulitply.
so much better

Can I just ask why there are cotton baby socks in the poll? I have never heard of that.

I selected "other" I havn't had a period for nearly 2 years now (just the usual PP bleed) I have bought disposable ones for that this time but from memory with DS when I was at home I just used folded up flannels as it started to slow down. I think I had some spotting before falling pregnant with Ollie but I just used flannels then too.

I use tampons only because my mum use to make me use pads and they where so big and not good when you are riding in horse shows and having to sit on it !
I do want to try the diva cup but i had this strange thought the other day, what happens when you lay down does it run out?

Shiraaa, fair enough. I like wearing cloth pads because to me tampons are uncomfortable. I also wonder about the bleaches and the TS risk. I have disposable wipes I wipe between changes as well as changing my pad often.
Sodor, some women use pure cotton baby socks, rolled up like tampons.
Babymaker You should of picked folded up material. I put it there for people who use what you do but I wrote "material" because I guess a woman could use any material as well.

Yeah, I understand what you mean. Well if what your doing currently works for you then why change anything?
You could also buy a few cloth pads here and there if you get the money, I buy a three pack at wemoon for 30 dollars when ever I have the money to slowly increase the amount I have. Remember they last for years.

I use a Lunette cup and cloth pads towards the end of my period. So simple and so cheap!

Cups don't spill-they can't, they are held in using natural suction.
As for blood being disgusting? Blood is such a huge part of a womans life, that I find that odd.
We bleed often and for many years and when we birth there is a huge amount of blood and other bodily fluids involved. Post-birth our bodies bleed very heavily and for up to 8 weeks solidly so we don't have much choice but to accept it really. Pads are a huge part of our lives post baby, so seeing all that blood becomes quite normal.
Diva cup. and I LOOOOVE it :yelclap:

You have to use some type of pad after giving birth
Maybe you could use some kinda cup, dunno never used one.
I prefer tampons myself also, have used sponge ones before as i have has TSS.
I just purchased a Diva cup and am yet to use it as such, but so so excited about it!
I also need to invest in some cloth pads.... I want to buy a few luxurious ones if I can get a hold of some (any reccommendations ladies??????)..... and will be turning some old boosters and leftover PUL into some home made ones too!
Up until now its been mainly disposable pads.... I find tampons very uncomfortable and tend to increase my cramping by loads...

Actually, tampons are as unhygienic as you can get.
They cause lacerations along the vaginal wall which immediately produces a nasty, bacteria in concoction with the chemicals they are made from, it is very dangerous.
In answer to the OP. I use a diva cup, I too prefer not to sit in my own filth. Since having my surgery, I am having very short cycles, no pain. It's a dream come true.
$20 for 10 years, what can get cheaper then that?
I was spending almost $50 a cycle on pads and super Tampax. :crying:
Thank goodness I made the switch.
I'm looking right now to buy a Diva cup  I can't find any under $30 though.. gosh I hate being poor lol.
I don't get periods often and I usually just use disposable pads but I don't like them.
Can you wear Diva cups while you sleep??

I scored my diva for $20.00.
Hope you can find a cheap one, I'll have a look around and see if I can find one similar in price. :)

Oh that's the best part! :bee:
You can leave them in for as long as twelve hours- no harm to your system what so ever.
The only harm in leaving them in for a long time is the possibility of leaking.
I've left mine in for 12 hours plus and still haven't had a leak.

When I say 'I don't like to sit in my own filth', I simply mean, I hate the gross feeling of knowing when I'm bleeding, iykwim?
I have over the years developed a lot instability about menstruating due to the pain and rough cycles I've been through.
Having PCOS and Edometriosis has made it very difficult for me to appreciate being a 'menstruating' woman, has a lot to do with my hormones which would explain my negativity towards it.
On the other hand:
This type of approach on female hygiene has me outraged and it quite possibly explains where a lot of the misinformed comments towards female hygiene have stemmed from.
Click here (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v314/ashkems7/952589017_ada5b6da70_o.jpg)
I hate that a product has been advertised to assist women with their menstruating whilst keeping the key ingredients under wraps.
It's all a massive marketing ploy.
Why would a woman buy a product that says, "The bleach and other pesticides in this product will assist your menstrual cycles by causing vaginal lacerations spreading bacteria increasing your risk of contracting TSS".
Put a pretty label on the packaging, hide the facts, hide the truth, put a beautiful woman in a commercial advocating the product, use a male in the scheme to trick you into thinking a male prefers you if you use that particular product and you've got yourself a customer.
It's interesting, and scary all the same.

I use my diva cup on heavy days & cloth pads on lighter days. I'm starting to build my cloth stash so still have to use some disposable pads every now & then.
Cloth pads are so much more comfortable than disposables, just feels like thick knickers really.
I got my diva cup of the US ebay site, from memory it was about $35 Aussie dollars including the postage
What have you ladies done to me  I'm now on a site that sells divawash, divacups, cloth pantyliners, chocolate and I just wanna buy it all :p
I must be off to bed though, Ashleigh if you find a cheap one do you think you could send me the link via PM pleease?? :) Only if you can of course.

Me too. I buy a pad once a fortnight (which is all I can afford). I pick the cloth pads I like and then Ruby gets the final say in which one I get.
When I say 'I don't like to sit in my own filth', I simply mean, I hate the gross feeling of knowing when I'm bleeding, iykwim?

I know what you mean. I have lived with excruciating pain every month for 19 years (crikey!), so I have always looked at it with a feeling of impending doom. And what's worse is that Ruby has had to watch me go through that. Watching mummy in the foetal position on the floor, crying and unable to move is not the best impression for a girl who is going to start her own cycle in a few years (again, crikey!)
Maybe it is a bit easier for me to deal with the pad idea because I can't use anything else anyway.

After my surgery, I had to use pads for a couple weeks but it really wasn't as bad as I remembered.
I'm positive that cloth pads would be far more comfy, less intrusive then disposables.
Plus, not having to hear that awkward plastic sound whilst you walk.
I used to be paranoid that EVERYONE could hear it too.

:iagree: with Ash
its very sad :(
the diva cup doesnt spill
after insertion it 'pop's open around the cervix and creates a suction so it doesnt move or spill.
mine has overflowed once and that was over night.
i used it the following night with a back up pad but it didnt leak.
no risk of tts with a cup

Can you wear Diva cups while you sleep??
Sure can! I use a Lunette and I sleep with it in. I have also done yoga wearing it, gone horseriding, swimming, ran a 10 km fun run with it in and hiked 32 kms wearing it!
They are brilliant and so adaptable.
Camping or hiking are excellent times to use it-no need to take anything disposable with you and no need to worry about what to do with 'used' products afterwards.

No, every woman doesn't understand that. I have no issue with menstruating. It is a part of what makes us women.
It isn't some incidental afterthought, added when we were evolving, it is what gives us the ability and the right to procreate! Without it we wouldn't have our beautiful babies.
There was a time when the arrival of our blood was celebrated and women nurtured one another through this time.
If anyone would like to read an amazing book that may alter your perception of menstruating, try The Red Tent. Truly an amazing story.:)
I was another one that had the excruciating periods for years.... thankfully since having P and removing all synthetic hormones from my body it has improved greatly......
I am excited at the possibility of them being almost pain free with the cup and cloth pads.... :smiliedance:
Actually I thought I would get an odd reaction when I told my mum I bought a cup, but she actually told me she used to have a diaphragm that she also used for that purpose.... who'd have thought!
I just ordered my diva cup yay!!!!

where did you get it Angike?
how much did it cost?
Congratulations Angike :yelclap:
I use cloth pads, I have issues with tampons (hate them) and thanks to bubhub I found cloth pads soooooooooo much nicer than disposable ones.
No sweaty plastic
No nasty chemicals
No wood pulp
No bleach
No used pads in landfill :barf:
Just lovely soft breathable natural fibres ( although my ones do have a PUL back so that they are leak proof).
They can seem expensive to start with but once you have enough you are set. I love picking out pretty fabrics :D.
Since using them my cycle has gradually become shorter (by about a day) a noticebly less painfull :smiliedance:.
