This is long & involves more than just a bf problem, but figured it was the best place.

Ani was sick last week with a vomitting bug & since then he has had very few wet nappies. As in I can change him morning, noon & night & they are barely wet. The night one is wet, but nothing like it normally is. I'm using sposies atm as its easier to moniter them & I was worried he'd have loose BM's like MJ did after the vomitting.

He's breastfeeding heaps, AF has returned for me & its decreased my supply so am feeding what feels like constantly. As soon as he comes near me he screams for a feed, then doesn't want to detach :( He's the same at night, after we finally get nights sorted & he was sleeping through from 7pm - 5am this happens & he's up 3-4 times a night wanting a bf.

He wont drink anything else, i've even tried fruit juice (was told by a paed to give it to him if he gets constipated to get things moving), but he refuses it, or will take it then spit it.

Its really starting to worry me, he's happy if we're out, but at home just wants to feed all the time & isn't wetting near as much as he should. I used to have to put 2 disposables on him at night, now 1 isn't even full. He's also started throwing full on tantrums, back arching throwing himself on the floor tantrums if I don't bf him............i'm at a loss :(

Anyone have a magic cure, or know what it could be or at least what i'm going through?

How many days has it been since he was last sick?

DD2 (13 months) had it a couple of weeks back and she was off food and only being bf for 4 days. I knew that she was ready for food again when she wouldn't stop bfing and was a cranky, irritable baby. She didn't wet as much (but still wet) but it as all back to normal by the time it had been a week.
Is he eating food again?
How long has it been since he vomited last?

He hasn't vomitted since.......tuesday I think it was. He's eating, well not as much as he used to, but he is eating. He's not got loose bowels so thats another plus.

Just about to try to give him some lunch now.

I can't help with the bf side, but when DD had bad gastro at nearly 2 years old she took about a week to get back to normal. As you know, dehydration is the big concern if he's not having wet nappies. But the signs of that (dry lips/mouth, listlessness, lack of energy) don't sound like Ani right now.

If the bowels have really settled & you're feeling daring you could try some liquidy type foods. DD would go nuts for watermelon at that age.

Thanks Martha. He's not dehydrated that I can tell, constant tears & drool

He just ate a heap of tinned peaches & had another feed & is playing on the floor happily for a change!!

I'm thinking that tomorrow will be a VERY lazy day for us. DH goes back to work & MJ goes to preschool so much sleep will be had....Ani permitting :p
