I have been co sleeping with DS to try and get some sleep ..... He is 8 months old and has never slept more than two hour in a row(well has a couple of times but not very often) and i am LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSING my mind, i have two older kids 9+10 and one of those has adhd so can be a challange at the best of times but trying to deal with her when i am this sleep deprived is extra hard.

DS sleeps slightly better with me, but i find co sleeping so uncomfertable, i wake every morning with a really sore back and neck. so i have taken the side off the cot and pushed it up to the bed so he can sleep in his cot(hopefully) and i can have my space back but still be able to comfort him. im hoping this improves things. has anyone else done this?? was it successful? how did you cope with day sleeps? any help would be greatly appreciated

TIA

Trish

I did this with my DD and have been since she was 6 months old (she is now 16 months) for exactly the same reasons as you mentioned - co sleeping in the same bed did. not. work. for us.

Initially she would sleep on the bed with me and I would slowly push her into the cot, until the bed was left all to me and DH (bliss!)

Then I started feeding her in the cot and moving off the cot on to the bed myself. It was the best move I ever ever made. She was still next to me if she needed me, and she was less likely to wake because of my moving, and I wasn't ever pushed to the end of the bed, trying to stay on, and make sure she didn't fall off! LOL.

I hope it works as well for you as it does for me. I find that my DD really likes being in her own cot now, even though I am right next to her on the bed. She doesn't want to sleep on the bed at all.

All the best :flowerz:

I do this with my 10 month old, and it is successful in that I get a bit more room in my bed to sleep, she is still a bad sleeper though.

It has recently become problematic in that she is crawling to the edge of the bed before she calls out when she wakes up (during day sleeps). So I am putting the side back on the cot during the day, which luckily is pretty simple with the cot we have... but still a pain.

I am trying to 'train' her into sleeping with the sides on the cot during the day. I havent had any success ye, but this is my plan...

taeshismum, I used to put a mattress on the floor closest to the edge of the bed she would crawl off. She had fallen off a couple of times until she learnt how to get down herself.

Thats a good idea! I'll have to see if I can convince the husband... he is very protective of his little flower :) he might not be able to cope with the idea of her diving off the bed even onto a mattress. I'm a bit more relaxed about the occasional bump!

Ok so it seems to be going well, we have gone from screaming every time he is put down to putting him self to sleep straight away. Nights though..... he still is waking HEAPS but it is much easier to deal with coz he is right next to me. so i think it is going great, my MIL thinks it is sooooooo Dangerous but she doesnt like much that i do. she thinks im a bit of a hippy. DS is 9 months old still BF, in home made cloth nappies and co sleeping

you could always leave the side of the cot on but in the dropped position so they can't roll out of bed while they sleep but can climb out when they wake up. i use to do this for my dd's daytime naps. and i just used her foam port-a-cot mattress on the floor incase she fell.
