Hi everyone,

A lot of healthy debate has been going on here about short luteal phases and its really interesting. I actually wanted to know what peoples thoughts were on long luteal phases. I came off the pill about 5 months ago. I wasnt recording my first 3 cycles, but last month my cycle was 44 days and this month....well, my period was due yesterday and that would've been 44 days, but no period. Did a pregnancy test and it was :bfn:-but am going to retest on Monday as i know that for some people testing on the day their AF is due is too early.

So, do people know any reasons for long luteal phases? Any sort of medical reasons behind it?
I've read that a lot of people have looong cycles after stopping the pill, so i don't feel that abnormal!

Any advice is appreciated

Hi there,

I don't have an answer to your question - but I've moved it to its own thread, so that it doesn't run the other member's thread off-track, and also because I think you'll get more responses this way :)

Cheers.

Hi there,

Are you sure that it's the luteal phase that is long, rather than taking a long time to ovulate? It isn't clear from your post if you are charting or know when you ovulate, and the LP is the time between ovulation and your AF. I think that when your cycles are long, the commenest reason is that ovulation is happening later.

Apologies if you know this already and I have misunderstood!

 DBDB,

Not too sure whether my LP is long because of my cycle or i am just taking awhile to ovulate.

I've been using the ovulation calendar on google to determine when i'm ovulating and it seems pretty accurate. I looked at my cycle for this month and it looks like my LP was 15 days for this cycle. Sounds pretty normal to me......??
