View Full Version : Car seat-what would you do?
My nearly 2.5 year old is now in a maxi rider 1. He is in the last slot at the top(he is 97cm tall) and weighs just over 16kgs. Now the seat only goes to 18kg before you have to change it to a booster seat. The only thing is he doesnt sit very well in only a booster seat with lap sash belt(and he is only young and I can't use a harness with this one either).
I do have another booster seat that you can use a harness with.
he still has plenty of room to grow taller in his seat though but his weight may become a problem. He isn't fat just a well built kid.
Would you just keep him in that seat even if he is over 18kg's with the proper seat harness over him and wait for him to outgrow it with his height. Or would you put him in the normal booster seat with the H harness(this booster seat doesn't have the crutch belt thingy in it either).
:rain:
It sounds like he'd be a lot safer to stay in the maxi rider ...... Keep him in that till he outgrows it length wise

My nearly 5 year old is still in the maxi rider & using the 5 pt harness. She is 112cms tall and weighs about 18 kilos. Her shoulders are level with the shoulder straps. Personally I'd recommend keeping him in it for as long as possible, it really is so much safer. The weight limit is only a guide and if the harness still fits him them he is probably fine. If you have any concerns you can always ask the RAC to check it out for you.
At 2.5 my daughter was still falling asleep in the car quite a lot and I would have had concerns about her sliding out of a booster seat without the harness between her legs.
Thanks guys, that is what i thought too. Luckily he isnt much of a sleeper in the car unless we go for a out of town visit which wont happen anytime soon cos i am due with bub 3 in dec.
I guess i just wanted reassurance that i was doing the right thing by keeping him in it until he outgrows it length wise. I will ring racq for there opinion when he hits 18kgs. That is the trouble when you have tall kids, there weight seems to be more aswell. They outgrow things so much. I keep getting told he looks more like a 4 year old.

I would keep him in the maxi rider with the protecta H harness. Which is what I have done with DD1 who is 3 years and 18kg.

I personally would changet eh harness over when he hits 18kgs....the weight ranges are in place for a reason. My almost 2yo is in the maxi rider with harness as he is 18kgs. WHy can't you use a harness with your maxi rider??? We also have another booster seat which my almost 4 yr old uses who is also 18kgs......we use a harness, but there is no crotch strap.......the armrests keep the belt in place so they can't slip under......even if there is a tantrum or he is wiggly or sleeping, you can see he wouldn't slide under.
i cant use a harness with my maxi rider because it is an OLDER STYLE one--not the ones you can use the protecta harness with. If i could i would just do that once he hits the weight range.
I had this maxi rider for his sister who is 8 in november. They have been around awhile. It is about 6 years old.
You might find that it takes him a long time to reach 18 kgs anyway :)
