I just have a quick query. I have a really sore back (muscular ache) and wanted to rub some Deep Heat to help relieve it but I remember reading somewhere that anything containing peppermint oil is a no-no in pregnancy.

So does anyone know if this is ok or not?

Alternatively, does anyone know how to remedy a back ache?:( Im 25 weeks preggie...

Thanks in advance.

I used tiger balm a few times, but dont know if you are really supposed to or not. How about a wheat heat pack instead if you have one

Ive just had a quick google and found three different documents with different recommendatioins for pregnancy and deep heat

Looks like deep heat isn't a major but if you use any rub on anti-inflamatories, check it out with your GP first. Do a google and see if you can find more. I would but I have a baby to bath. :)

Thanks ladies. I think I'd rather be safe than sorry and won't be using it tonight. Will check with my GP tomorrow if the pain is still there in the morning. It hurts so bad though, so I'm going to have an early night and try to sleep the pain away.

I so wish I had one of those wheat heatpacks right now....

Here is a fact sheet for deep heat,
if you scroll down it does mention effects on pregnant animals.... but humans..unknown?? Consult your GP..
Personally i would be looking at an alternative method to relieve the pain ;)

I don't know whether it was a coinsidence but I miscarried the day after using deepheat and will never use it again. I had spasims in my neck and was given a a cream for the love I can't think of it but it was a heat cream without the anti-infam component.

I was away recently and had some muscular probs, and went to the chemist for some deep heat. She looked at my tum and said that it really wasn't advisable. She said there's no firm evidence that Deep Heat is BAD for pregnant women, but she said it did contain some things that were questionable. She ended up telling me to get some Bio Oil and get DH to give me a good rub (she said rubbing is half the therapy of Deep Heat anyway).
