Car Seat Recommendations please

Hi all

My mother in law wants to purchase a car seat for her Rav so she can transport my daughter. Can anyone recommend a decent car seat that doesnt cost a fortune but still offers great safety features. I currently have a Safe n Sound retractor model which I am happy with, but am unsure if she is able to spend $400 on a seat.
There are some on special in Toys R Us

Safe-N-Sound Safekeeper Delux was $249.99 now $179.99
Go Safe Delux Sercure Car Seat with hood was $269.00 now $149.99

Does anyone have either of these seats and recommend them?

I've heard as long as you go with any SAfe N Sound model, they are the best.

Have you tried any baby stores? Sometimes I've seen them on special there for about $160.

My parents have a Safe'n'Sound Guardian in their car. It has the same plastic moulding as the more expensive models (like our Meridian) but just doesn't have the flash fabric or recline option. According to the NRMA/NSW RTA crash tests, it is as safe as the more expensive models. From memory it costs about $180 brand new which I thought was very reasonable.

I would disagree with the generalisation that all Safe'n'Sound carseats are good because in the above mentioned crash tests, they found a couple that were not very safe (including the old maxirider). Check out the report and go from there.
