Hi there yes my partner and i are in the same situation. we have been trying for 8 months and its getting to the point of rustration and strees. We are so ready for a baby but we are just not being blessed with one. How did you find your donor if you dont mind me asking?

i completely understand how you are feeling, It is absoloutely draining when you know you are doing everything right yet getting nowhere!, We advertised for a donor on the maybebaby.org.au site, and got a reply almost right away from the actual conveyor of the site he is a lovely, honest and trustworthy man who's main focus is helping us. Where do you guys live? we are in melbourne, if you are close by we should catch up, it would be nice to have support from people who are going through the same thing.
Good luck guys! :wizard: it will happen for you this year

We are from Sydney. Its really hard as you said you think you are doing everything right and monitoring your ovulation but its disappointment when you the test with only one line. We are waiting for results this month so fingers crossed. We dont want to do a hpt because we are scared of another disappointment but if were not pregnant were not pregnant. Yeah really need to support its a shame you guys are from melbourne. Well let us know if you guys are preggers and we will also update you guys on our status.

Take care

Hey there,

We spent 12 months TTC with fresh donor sperm without success. We are from Adelaide and had a donor from Sydney so logistically it was a bit of a nightmare :)

After having no success we have recently swapped Birth mums, and are scheduled to start TTC through a clinic within the next couple of months.

Good Luck with everything for everyone :bee:

Hi Nurse 27,

Wow and i thought 8 months was long. Yeah we have thought about switching birth mums but we are going to try and see if we are pregnant first before doing anything else. We are hoping hoping hoping:yelclap::smiliedance: that we are pregnant but we try not to think about it too much because as we said we dont want to get disappointed.

Well goodluck and hope everything goes well.

Hi Ladies,
My DP and i do our first at home AI next month when the time is right. Were really hopeing that everything goes well first time round, but with hearing of so many couples who struggle it kinda dims my hopes. Were lucky enough to have a donor who is willing to donate as many times as needed.
Does anyone else find that when you mention to people your doing at home AI they ask how and want details?

Hey Readymummies28 Good luck with you testing, hopefully you are successful this time around and can look forward to a happy and healthy pregnancy :)

ShellKiz I can so relate to people wanting to know the ins and outs of DIY babymaking, and it doesn't matter if they are gay, straight or otherwise....people seem to be fascinated by it.
Did you manage to find a donor in Adelaide? Don't let the sadder stories on here get to you....there are plenty of people who have no trouble with TTC.

Good Luck :D

Hey Nurse,

Thanks for your reply. We have been really lucky to have a friend of ours that is willing to donate as many times as needed and then sign over his parental rights once bubs is born.

I try not to get down about the chances of us not falling pregnant and then pray that were one of the lucky ones.

How long to you try AI through the clinic?

Hi All, As some of you kn ow from other threads I have 2 boys (now 8 and 10 years old) who were conceived at home using a known donor. DS1 was conceived on the third go and DS2 on the second and at the time it felt like an eternity.... now many years later we are TTC. We began at home in the same way as the boys were conceived but after 12 months of TTC apart from an early miscarriage in Nov '07 we had nothing but BFN.... so we spent a few months on clomid and ended up going down the IVF path. We did our first cycle in Nov '08 but sadly got a BFN. I started injecting last night for our second IVF go.....Thus, I've experienced conceiving children at home and also the ART journey.

I agree that people are quite 'nosy' not just about the logistics of conception but about how our kids experience two mums, not having a dad etc, what u tell them etc, etc. My own philosophy when people ask if they can ask questions is to say ask anything they like and I will tell them is I don't want to answer.... 99.999% of the time I'm happy to answer them and in fact believe and tell them that I see it as a good opportunity to educate people re rainbow families.

I'm looking forward to chatting more about TTTC and the fun that follows in pregnancy, birth and parenting. Also keen to meet up with Adelaide based women.

Have a great day and good luck to all who are currently TCC, TWW etc.

We have our appointment in the last week of february.....feels like an eternity since we last saw the FS. We have spent the last few months trying to relax and think good happy baby making thoughts

I am hoping he gives us a green light to go ahead straight away. When we last saw him, he was talking about doing IUI for the first 4 - 5 times (if needed) and then going onto IVF.

I am kind of scared and crazy excited about the whole thing, but I don't know if I trust my body enough to do the right things

Shell are you going to be birth mum - or your partner? How did you make that decision?

Good luck DrGirl and partner with 2nd cycle - we can't wait to hear about your BFP, and have a celebration lunch together :D

Stay cool everyone!

Hi SHellKiz,

Try to be positive about the whole TTC procedure. We try to be positve everytime we do one because it could happen at any time. Even after 8 months of trying we are still excited everytime we do it. We try not to be disspointed because atleast there is nothing wrong with both of us its just thats not as easy as we originally thought.

At the momoent my partner stil hasnt received her monthlies so we are hoping this is it. We will keep everyone updated.

Readymummies: Happy baby thoughts are something we are continiously haveing!! Were really lucky to have the support of our families behind us which makes it all alot easier!
What you wrote actually made alot of sense as far as their being nothing wrong with your bodies as that is something you cant take for grated. Ive got my fingers and toes crossed for you girls !

Nurse27: I will be the one who will be the birth mum this time round. We decided for me to try first as a) im older b) my few health problems aer doing really well atm and c) my DP has to be of her injections to stop her cycle as they would cause her alot of pain.

Were getting really excited now waiting for the right time to do our first insemination. Weve got everythingall lined up with our donor and our travel plans all set. The only thing that is kinda makin me nervy is that we have to do the insemination at a place other than our home....

Hey Good luck to everyone ttc, we deserve a baby just as much as anyone on here and it will all be worth it in the end, Hang in there girls! :wizard:

After a months break we inseminated for the 5th cycle last night and will so again on friday. This time we used a 'menstrual cup', Our donor did the do straight into the cup and i went straight into the room and inserted it so there was minimal time between. I hope and pray it worked this time round but because of the break i also find that i am less stressed about it.

I guess we'll find out in 2 weeks. i vow not to buy a million hpt's this time!

Hi fellow Mums to be,
I've posted on a few threads -desperately hoping to connect with someone so sorry if i am being repetitive.

We are also trying IUI thru a clinic - just started our third cycle - insem is this Friday - my hat goes off to the couples who have said that they have tried for 8 mths etc. We are struggling with three months, But then again we started our pregnancy plans in June 2008 so i guess that is 7 months.

How do you all cope? I am getting quite disheartened. I want to stay positive but then i seem to find it harder when the HPT says Nope not pregnant.

Oh and we are on the Gold Coast in QLD

Hi all,

We have just got a :bfn: on our third attempt. I have heard that it works though so hoping it is just a matter of time and not some obscure fertility problem that i am unaware of.

Not sure if you are charting but i would highly recommend it (Body Basal Temperature & cervical mucus) to give you an indication of when you O'd. I also use OPK's (ovulation prediction kits) which i bought in bulk off the internet which also really help with making sure your timing is spot on.

I read the book "The new essential guide to lesbian conception, pregnancy and birth" by Stephanie Brill and i would highly recommend it. Goes through all donor options and then how to inseminate plus a WHOLE heap of other information.

Good Luck and keep us updated!

BTW i am inquisitive (otherwise known as obsessive) by nature and have a wealth of knowledge if you need to know details rather than reading the book :ecomcity:

2mums - i am incredibly disheartened, :hair: and slightly obsessive while in the tww. I'm not sure how to calm down either but my thoughts go out to you. Fingers crossed that it happens your next cycle x

HI Green Mum to be,
(and others)
I did chart for about four months prior to going to the clinic but I am taking FSH to generate my follicles and then i get an ultrasound to check their growth and then i adminster a trigger injection called Pregnyl to ovulate so don't need to chart anymore. I do watch for signs like the ovulation mucus though.

We too have read the essential guide to lesbian conception, pregnancy and birth - Go Hares and Hyenas.

I too am obsessive and have read alot and asked lots of questions of our donor co-ordiantor.

I'm sorry your HPT resulted in sad news - there is nothing worse is there. Our first cycle I got so tired and hungry and moody and dizzy that we were so sure we were pregnant and then having your periods turn up is so heartbreaking.

The third IUI was today - new variables this time - my past two IUI the lead follicle has been on the right, this time it was left and we have a new donor - so maybe that will make a difference.

When can you try again?

Hi everyone just thought id keep you updated on our situation.

Unfortunately we are not pregnant. My partner got her period today. We are kinda getting used to it so im hoping when we do see two lines it will be a big shock which it will be.

Disappointed but will keep trying and we know this is our year.

Have to always think positive and do not let these negative results get to you because trust me when that little bundle of joy appears it is all worth it.

We are now trying to locate a new donor and having a bit of trouble but still looking.

Anyway starting a new cycle this feb. Baby dust to all!!!:wizard:

Hi 2mums,

Will try again this month... well actually now it will be this week. With an excellent donor who is really close it makes it easy. Today is day 8 and i usually ovulate on day 14 or 15 so we'll be having a quiet weekend at home and waiting for 'the delivery' I still find it amusing!

:fingerscrossed: that third times a charm! I'll be thinking of you during the tww :hugs:

Each month we've tried i've had some symptom that i've thought was a pregnancy. Even the last month when i was convinced i wouldn't do it to myself again. I had to pee every 5 mins... turned out to be a UTI. It is actually REALLY funny now.

good luck to everyone!

It was also interesting to find out that if we concieve in a 'natural' way the donor is liable to pay child support and centerlink have to know who he is, However, if we tellthem we concieved through DIY AI then they dont need to know who he is.. But we find out alot more details tomorrow. WIll let you know how we go.

Hi shellkiz,

How did your meeting go? Which state are you in again? I am so curious about the differences across states when it comes to the law. We were told by the best queer lawyer in Brisbane that even if we had drawn up legal papers (if we used a known donor) saying the donor had no legal rights to the baby and that Kylie was the child's second intended parent that if the donor wanted to later claim rights to the baby that the legal document wouldn't be worth the paper it was written on.
This made our decision pretty concrete - there is no way anyone else is going to try to say that they as a donor are more of a parent than Kylie - the parent who dreamed of our baby, who will support me thruout the pregnancy and labour and parent our child as if she or he had come from her own body.
I would never want to put her thru that pain.

Hey Amanda & Kylie,

Yeah my meeting with the lawyer lasted a whole 15 mins! she basically said the same thing that you mentioned.
Were lucky in the sense that our donor has kids already, doesnt want to play father to another child he just sees himself as 'helping us out' as he puts it. He in no way wants to play any role in the childs apart from the role he already plays in out lives, that of a friend of ours.
All that being said, we are drawing up our own 'contract' that will have everythign included that is and isnt to happen and have both of us and both the donor and his partner sign it so that atleast that is in place if something were to happen.

Found out some interesting facts tho, If bubs is concieved thru vagional intercourse he will be made topay child support etc, if bubs is concieved through AI and his name isnt on the birth certificate then Child Support and other governing bodies can not force the biological father the pay matinance or be the childs father at all!!! Disd that make any sense?? lol :o

Were gettin really excited now. Only 2 weeks off our first insemination which we do once weve had our melbourne holiday..

HI Shell,

Firstly, I tried to save you as a friend - I have no idea if it worked I can be really hopeless when it comes to this stuff - so please let me know (if u get notified) whether i did it right or not.

Wow 15 minutes LOL Thats not much is it... I'm so glad you have someone who is clear about what u guys what and what he wants - that will take the stress away.
One of the benefits of doing at home insems is you guys can do multiple Insems over the 18 - 24 hour window around ovulation - which greatly increase your chances.

Are u doing vaginal insem or interuterine insem?

Two weeks!!! So exciting - I remember that stage. I remember crying after the first insem - Kylie thought I was crying cause it hurt (which it did) but i was crying because at last after all our prep and discussions we had begun - there was a chance in two weeks we would know we were having a baby - of course that one didn't work but I almost threw up today after smelling food and couldn't go back into the kitchen and couldn't eat anything SO,, hopefully that was morning sickness.

Take care and we'll talk soon..
Hey did u end up saying what state u guys are in? I'm thinking either Victoria or NSW.

Hey all, Hi Shell, Kiz

We bought our next lot of pregnancy tests and it is taking all my strength not to take the test... especially when the pack is saying it can be taken six days before your period is due and mine are due tomorrow!!! Kylie is being very firm with me - we agreed to at least wait til 13th - my sister's chi-gong master has told her from day one that she has gotten the number 3 in her head when she thinks of us conceiving.
This was our third attempt, it was done on 30th, do hpt on 13th, we live a house # 3, i'm born on the 3rd and kylie is born in March (third month) so we are hoping all those 3s mean something - I know desperate right but have to cling to something to get thru each attempt...

She also described our clinic almost perfectly - she said she sees me in a room on the second floor of a building, large glass windows running along it and wooden floors. Our clinic is on 2nd floor with large glass windows. The wooden floors are upstairs at our consulting doctor but she got it pretty close.

Shell & KIz- Adelaide I must admit i have little knowledge of the laws governing SA. Glad to hear u aren't in Vic and are safe from the fires.

One day closer to ur start day!!!

We are not pregnant - AF today... :(

See our consulting doctor on 25 February to discuss our next step - there is an expectation that u will fall after three so we now have to change the treatment we are getting.

My mum had to have her falliopan tubes flushed out to fall with both my sister and me - so we have suggested this as an option for next course of action.

Has anyone had this done - when my mum got it done - 29 years ago - she said it was excruitating - worse than the labor so curious about how it is done in 2009.

Can ur heart break when u lose someone u never really had - because thats how i felt this morning... pain, anguish, numb...

I love who I am and I love my wife but this is such a hard way to start a family..

I'm sorry i am so low today - very little sleep in the last four days - the friend's son we are looking after hates storms and we had a storm last night so i was up comforting for a big chunk of the night and the last three of the four i have been sitting by his bed in the wee hours of the night after he has come to my door upset about something has happened... Poor thing he is missing his mum so badly.

I have no idea about the tube flushing stuff but I wondered if you have looked into natural fertility advice? I dont know what state you are in but there is a fantastic place in NSW I know of. 2mums- We are very sorry to here that you guys are not pregnant. We know exactly how you feel. We have been trying for 1 year to concieve and everytime we get a negative result its like our hearts are taken out of our chest and thrown on the floor. It is crushing. The last test we did we saw straight away that it was negative and we are use to it. Yes it is possible to love someone that is not there yet because thats how we felt. Stay positive.

ShellKiz- Hi girls! i bet you guys are exicted for your first try. Best advice is RELAX. We started our insemination today for this month. Our Donor came around to drop of his supply and we went right to it. Hopefully our little miracle is on its way.

Anyway i have fingers crossed and everything else for anyone ttc.

AF came today, so that is 4 :bfn: for us thus far.

It was a really emotional month as well, had a FALSE :bfp: on 11dpo. So after thinking that we might have actually got it to work this time, it's all over.:crying:

We are considering having a rest for a couple of cycles.

thanks guys!

Just a question. We so far have had 5 pregnancy tests all showing bfp getting stronger everyday but we went to the doctors today and he performed a urine test and it was negative so we freaked out and bought a different brand of test and it came back positive. Has this happened to anyone else?
Its kind of scarey that ONLY the gp's tests are negative and we have 7 positive HPT's

ShellKiz - OH MY GODDESS!!!!!!!! I just sent you an email - then i hopped on and saw your news!!! Yippee!!!! This is fantastic news!!! And of course to frozipops too - Congratulations.

Maybe this the start of BFP for everyone

I haven't been on much lately - apologises.. We decided two weeks ago to look into buying a house and before we knew it we had found one and put in a contract.

We also saw our fertility specialist and he suggested we do some tests to see why I am not falling pregnant - so I head to hospital next Wednesday for some explorative and possibly operative surgery.. The positive is we may get some answers and if there isn't anything significant found the % of people falling pregnant following the procedure is usually high so we may have a BFP soon too.

Things have settled down a bit now so hopefully I will be able to log on more regularly again...
