I have a cat, well , 2 cats but once hasnt got a problem, the other im about to strangle.

I love them to bits. They are old, one is 14, the other 15. Both are indoor cats.

Dh had them even before he met me so he is probably more attatched to them as he is me (honestly)! He has said before they are like his children.

My problem is the girl cat has started to poo EVERYWHERE! We moved house 6 months ago into a rented house. It must have had cats here before us because she immediatly started weeing everywhere.,

Now shes poos. I cant stand it. Its so unhygenic. I come down stairs and every morning there are 2 or 3 piles of it, some runny some not. I cant get it out of my carpet, the house stinks, i feel like crying just writing this.
I just want a nice clean home.

I dont know whats wrong with her. Other than tis she's fine. Shes been wormed/deflea'd...i make sure their little box is always cleaned daily.

She does it right infront of us too! we'r sat eating dinner and she will come and do it on the carpet infront of us!!!

I tell her off and put her straight in her box but shes doesnt seem to care.

Its causing so many problems between me and DH. He just says she's old and probably hasnt got much time left and i should just put up with it. But how can i put up with **** all over my carpets?????? The sloppy ones i just cant get out properly!! i bleach and scrub and hire carpet cleaners but nothing gets it out, or the smell! my house stinks!!!

We'r going to have to pay out for a whole new carpet before we move out of here now. The poor landlord!!

I cant afford to take her to the vets..

Iv been talking to my MIL and she just says take her to the vet and they will put her down, but i couldnt do it to DH. He'd leave me, no doubt about it.

I just dont know what else to do.

Does anyone have any ideas????

What would you do???

She is probably just getting old. :(

My cat and Mums dog both did that sort of thing when they were only weeks away from passing on.

Wait it out.. Try to be patient. Your DP may very well get a very bad shock soon. :(

In the meantime could you put her in a room at night and coat the floor with newspaper?

ETA: Pick what you can up with paper towel, get a really wet one and just dampen the carpet. Use a powder called CarPet and leave it for a while.

You poor thing...I can understand what you are going through!

I can't offer much advice really but I have been through this before with my old cat. Our last house move really unsettled her (she hated us even moving furniture) and she started this very same thing and she was around the same age!

It was disgusting and very annoying. Basically your cat has reacted badly to the move and there really isn't anything that can be done!

You are caught between a rock and a hard place - she may not have much time left, most cats live between 14 & 16 years (although mine lasted till she was nearly 19); if you don't want to face putting her down, perhaps you could set up a pen for her in the house?

She may get over it she may not....I found to reduce the smell, remove the stains and prevent my cat from repeating the nonsense, I scrubbed the spots with vinegar & phenyl (??spelling - just make sure you dilute it first)

Good luck....

Can you lightly spray the carpet with very watered down ammonia? Cats hate the smell and wont go to the toilet near that smell.

she could have a bowl problem but cats will poo and wee to define there ownership of a place, my cats 15 and when we first moved here she did the same thing i got a hormoan spray from the vet to spray around the house and another that removed the smell from where she was going to the loo and after about a fortnight of using them she stoped

:yes:Faecal incontinence can be a problem in old cats. And as NCNB said, she could be losing control of her bowels as part of the dying process but it could also be distress from the move as another poster said.

Get her checked out with the vet if you can and discuss your options with them. It would be a shame to put her down when she has so little time left but obviously, living in a rental property I can understand you needing to sort it out. Your vet will help. (Sorry I just saw the bottom of your post again and saw that vet options are out - maybe an anonymous call to RSCPA and see what they suggest as far as treating the problem).

And I promise I'm not stalking you NCNB. Everytime I post somewhere today it seems to be immediately after you!

my cat has been doing his for a while now. she is 21. I got her for my 1st birthday. It is a sign of ageing. Just like humans they get tired and bladder control isnt what it used to be, I agree with puting both cats away at night time. Another thing is you can look at her diet. Might need to change as she is ageing.

Not sure about the bowl problem, she never seems to be in any pain and eats and drinks normaly (which makes me think she's got years left in her):crying:

With the aging thing.. It doesn't necessarily mean that they have to be in pain. More that they might be weary and not have the energy to move, might not have the control to keep it in or might be very 'out of whack' (couldn't think of the word I wanted there) because she knows something is different and changing.
