Curious to know how old was/will your child be when you first took them to the cinema to watch a children's movie?
Did they enjoy the experience and manage to sit for the duration of the movie?

We took DS at about 3.5 but he never sat through a whole movie till about 4.5.

Sorry, I forgot to answer the 2nd bit.
At 3.5 it wasn't enjoyable as he kept saying he needed to go to the toilet and you'd miss half the movie. We left early twice between 3.5 and 4.5 and we never went all that often.

When they are old enough to sit through the movie.
There is no right age, because all kids are different.

my 3.5 year old went to his first kids movie - Kung Fu Panda - last school hols. he wasn't too bad and sat through most of it. he was fidgety towards the end. if you're going to do it, go for shorter films. i'll add that one of the other kids we were with, who is 5, was just as fidgety. as everyone has noted, it depends on the child.

DD is going with me this afternoon. It will be her first time! She is 4 years old. Will be interesting to see how she goes, as she only ever watches about 30 minutes of a show at home before the novelty wears off and she walks away from the tv, starts playing with her toys or something.
I'm very much looking forward to the movie and seeing the excitement on her face when she sees the BIG screen!
Just interesting to see when other people first took their littlies!
My DD sat thru the simpsons, alvin and the chipmonks with out a problem, but she was so bored thru kung fu panda and noisy we had to leave she will be 4 next month.
My son was 3.5 or 4 I think, can't remember now exactly, it was "The Bee movie" and he LOVED it, was glued to the screen. At the very start he was a little freaked out by how loud it was though, but he soon got used to it.
He loves coming to the movies now, I try to take him to one every school holidays.

I took DS1 to see 'Horton Hears a Who!' ...he wasn't three yet , but almost. We had been readingthe book at bedtime, (before it was even released) and jumped at the chance to see it on the big screen.
He gets really involved in the story and was just gorgeous to watch his reactions:bee:
All kids are different though....even at home, when I just want all three to stop, sit down and not move for half an hour or so I whack on a DVD...DS1& DD will sit glued to the screen, DS2 pffft!! fights me for the mop

I brought Aimee when she was 2.5 but she could only manage half the movie.
She's 3 now and sits through the whole thing, as long as she has sakata's to eat and a carton of juice she is having a great time. We always have to leave once for her to do a wee, but appart from that she's good.
I have brought Myles since he was a month old ( like I did with Aimee ), i make sure its for a film starting at around midday, so he has his 11.30 feed at the cinema then I put him in his pram and tilt it back and he goes off to sleep, and sleeps through the movie.

Summer who is 3 & a half, has been to the movies plenty of times  The first time we took her to the movies was when she was 18 months old, just because we wanted to see the kids movie :o She sat through half of it, and then slept the other half.
Now she can sit through a movie easily and gets excited when we go to the movies.
We took our youngest Taliyah who is 23 months old, for the first time last week. She sat through half the movie, then kept getting up and down and :ecomcity: through the rest of it. I don't think I will take her again for a while.

I take DD to the movies every time there are kids movies out that I wanna see. :p
I took her to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory when she was only a few months. That was more for me than her... I made sure it fell on nap time, and had a bottle waiting there for her to shove in her mouth if she was going to freak out and start crying.
Our latest was Wall-E a couple of weeks ago. DD's 3, and she'd have been able to sit through it... but we'd had a big day out and going to the movies wasn't planned... and she ended up falling asleep in her chair after having to run out to the toilet (DD doesn't use the toilet heaps... she tends to build it up and then do one big long wee).
At 3, you have to pay for them, so I'd only go if the cinema was cheap (at this cinema, she only cost $4 so it wasn't a big deal), or if I was sure she'd be awake to see it.
Don't worry too much if they talk through it either... just let them know to do it quietly. There's always little kids in kids movies, so it's not a big deal if they talk. Generally, the other parents understand. And if they scream, you just get up and leave. Not a biggie. :)
I stupidly took DD at 2.5 to see Kung Fu Panda, thought she would love it.... she wanted to get up and walk around. She did not get it at all....We will be waiting another year at least before we try it again....

DD went to see a special screening at the library when she was 2 and a bit and sat through the whole thing. She talks about it all the time, so I'm thinking of taking her again one day (she's not yet three). She sits through the whole movie at home so I think she'd be fine.
I was actually going to start a thread on this but now I don't have to!:D

I took dd recently and she managed about 45 mins before she got bored and wanted to wander off down the front near the screen. the place was empty so i just let her, sat back and enjoyed the rest of the movie.:D
