We've been blessed with one of those really happy and easy babies. Well until recently. All of a sudden she's adamantly refusing my breast and getting REALLY agitated and upset when I offer it to her. Then she just screams and screams and we can't stop her. This coming from a baby who never did more than a wimper before. She's soley breast fed so can't figure out why. She's started dribbling a bit lately so I checked her mouth to see if she's teething but she's only 3.5 months old. I can see both eye teeth but they're exactly the same on either side (on top) and I don't know whether it's normal to be able to see them or if They've been like this all along.

Anyone been through this and can help?

Yep I went through this and my son had an ear infections. When he opened his mouth to suck he screamed. I would make an appoitment to see the doctor to rule out ear/tonsil/throat problems.

Also, I would give the ABA a ring to see what they suggest - they are a great support or if funds permit a Lac consultant. I have private health so they paid for it however I think you can see ones in public hospitals for a nominal fee.

If you are worried about fluid until you see a doctor maybe try a bottle with some water in it. Goodluck. Its very stressful I know.:hugs:

hi there...

couple of other "might be's"

Thrush in bub's mouth
If your AF has returned it can change taste of milk and some babies will kick up a stink...

good luck and hope she settles soon x

It won't hurt to take her to the doc, my dd tends to dribble a lot when she has a sore throat so your little one may be refusing to bf as it is hurting her to swallow.

In regards to the teeth, it's usually the bottom front ones that come thru first.

Also when my DD was 3.5 months she went thru a stage of crying when I tried to feed her too, lasted for a couple of days. I just offered her the boob more during the day and she would have a drink on her terms only! I think at that age they just become more aware of the world around them.

Yep i agree, my bub had an ear infection a couple of weeks ago and was adamantly refusing breast. I would go to your GP to have a check up as this could be the problem.

Or maybe she just doesn't want the breast anymore.

How is she now?
It could be a breastfeeding strike. My son went through something like that at 4 months.

Perhaps she is reacting to something you are eating? My bubs did this and we have since found out that he is intolerant to dairy in my diet. That said, he reacted like this from early on, so not sure that it would have developed at your DD's age. Just a thought.

:iagree: It could also be your diet that is affecting her.

When my boys did this, it ended up being teeth...

All the best, I hope it doesn't last.

My DD started doing that at seven weeks old, by 12 weeks she was diagnosed with silent reflux.
