Hi Guys,
Just wondering how we're all going with sleeping?

I've almost always woken up occasionally during the night but in the last month I've noticed that I'm more awake during these times. I still don't have any trouble getting back to sleep though.
But in the last week or so I'm starting to find that I get very sore - particularly in the shoulder. I think pain from lying on my side wakes me and I have laboriously turn over and get comfortable again.
Turning over is sometimes a major challenge as I've been having some lower back pain. It's very painful trying to turn over. But I still laugh as it's so ridiculous.

I had to take the day off yesterday as my back was that sore. My fella stayed home with me as I found that I couldn't get out of bed on my own... Feeling like a geriatric whale! Lol - with ages to go yet. Time to pay more attention to my posture. :D

Finished whinging now

Hey grubincubator,
dont worry ive been doin alot of whingin lately
i think we are entitled to be fantastically happy about being pregnant but we still reserve the right to whinge about all the physical pain that goes with it , right?

as for me have just been to the first antenatal physio class which was really helpful in talking about posture etc was a really funny class , all I can remember is the three SSS's "we should move slowly, smoothly and symetrically" i find myself thinking this alot hehehe

i can sympathize with the back pain, it hit me so bad yesterday (im getting it real bad down one side of my back and bum , its sciatic nerve pain apparantly) i could hardly move either, warm bath and those heated up what packs helped.

sleeping- i have always woken up at night but getting up alot lately, craving warm weetbix at 4 in morning and usually cant go back to sleep, hopefully by the time she comes ill be accustomed to this, whatta u recken sounds like a plan :o

does feel like still ages to go doesnt it, 8 more weeks for me, how much bigger am i gonna get

hows everyone else going?

When I was pregnant I didn't sleep well at all from months 7 until birth! I would wake up 5 times a night to pee and then she would wake me up kicking me at all hours and then towards the end no position I would lay in was comfortable even with 20 pillows around me that I was lying on. They say for you to get as much rest as you can before bub is born but how can you when you are so large and bub is kicking you all night long. I also found that the last month was soooooo painful to get up out of bed as all the muscles had totally relaxed in preparation for birth so at times I was in tears for my middle of the night pees as it was worse than having pulled muscles in the groun/leg and stomach areas!

Oh, the joys of pregnancy............. all worth it in the end though!! :D

Hello everyone,

I felt I had been pretty lucky with the sleep thing, UP UNTIL THE LAST TWO NIGHTS!!!!! Really restless and with extra pressure on my hips laying on my side, changing sides happens more frequently (and with more effort).

yeahagirl- I often wonder how much bigger you could possibly get? Apparantly quite big. I have 8 weeks to go as well.

grubincubator- my shoulder often hurts too and I have found that if I pop my head a little higher and have a pillow in between arms when on my side it helps?

I suffer from sciatica and back pain as well but I am attending pre-natal yoga classes and they are fantastic. I have found that stretching the bum and thigh muscles in these classes particularly helps. Maybe have a look around for pregnancy yoga books, I know there is a few. Personally I am finding huge benefits from the classes.

Is anyone else getting super excited but at the same time anxious? I really really want to meet my bub but want him/her to take the time they need! Is anyone else attending birth classes at hospitals, birthing centres? Myself and partner (first bub for both) have started and yesterday they showed us the epidural needle. WHAT IS THE GO WITH THAT?! It is huge?! I know they administer a local first but really, is that necessary? As you have probably gathered I am not a needle person, could never understand junkies and felt for needle dependant diabetics. So with that I informed my partner "I will have an epidural only if my midwife absolutely recommends it, and ignore me if I start screaming for it at anytime." He agreed, he feels the same about needles.

And I agree, as pregnant women doing our bit for the world population, we reserve the right to whinge, moan, eat, nag, cry, demand, eat, laugh, smile, eat, sleep, pee whenever we feel like it or/and about whatever we feel like (or in the case of peeing when there really is no choice just find me a toilet, but make sure its clean, and make sure there is loo paper and if there isn't any loo paper, then find me some, etc, etc, etc!)

Sleep? WHat is that? I used to be the queen of sleep prior to say maybe 3 weeks ago... Now if I get to sleep like 4 hours a night - that's an achievement.

I have alot of discomfort - mostly tho from heartburn and terrible muscle ache on my calfs and sometimes thighs. But mostly I am so afraid I will somehow harm the baby in my sleep. I know its silly but can't get over the fear I will squish him somehow... I also have nightmares for some reason - mostly about the baby - dreamt one night I gave birth to a dragon... Yea Gawds, I hope that was not a sign of things to come...

Having said all that - last night I had a really good night's rest - slept deep and slept well.

I too have the shoulder aches - especially my left one but I think its cos during the day i kinda slump over my PC at work... Keep trying to remember my posture during the day but sometimes, I am so tired, its easier to slump...

The nights I sleep the best is the nights I attend my aqua aerobics class - they are great! I am also doing yoga but I do enjoy the aqua classes more...

Ok here's wishing all of you a good night's sleep!

Thank goodness there are other Mummies to be out there going through the same thing as me. I thought I might have been the only one.

I am having the shoulder pain on one side and siatica on the other so sleeping is great fun. Plus I am as big as a whale and moving from one side to the next is not fun.

It is all worth it in the end so they say. :)

Goodluck sleeping gals, sweet dreams :)

Silly me put the heavy winter doona on the bed and have been wondering why I am going through 1lt of water a night and getting up to pee every hour! I am so hot! I too have found that I need to sleep on 3 pillows under my head and shoulders to combat heartburn, and a body pillow between my legs and under my belly to get comfortable. (although the belly tends to lie on the bed by itself these days!)

Don't you just hate it when you roll over and just get comfy and realise there is no way you are getting back to sleep for any period of time without another pee?
and yes sleep deprivation doesn't start at the birth! this is our boot camp.

Bravo with us girls being able to grissle as much as we want. From my perspective we are making the biggest sacrifice anyone can make and that is our health. It is a big thing to make another person, and I think as it all kind of runs itself we forget to stop and give ourselves a pat and a present for getting through it! and don't let me hear anyone try and tell us to get over it!

If it is any use to you I have found magnesium complex supplements very good for cramps and muscle aches, and am using vitamin C to help with water retention, which trends to make sleeping easier.

Take care everyone, the end is in sight!
