James is still feeding every 3-4 hours at night. While it doesnt overly bother me, I was wondering whether I should be trying to cut down the night feeds? I know it is going to have to stop one day, and I am hoping it will magically stop once hes weaned off the bottle :fingerscrossed: maybe that is wishful thinking?

Should I keep going as I am, or is there some magic remedy to cutting down the night feeds that doesnt involve controlled comforting (I dont know how you can possibly comfort and put a bub back to sleep when they are hungry?)

He will keep waking up so long as he is hungry for a feed  Like you said, you cannot comfort a hungry baby with anything but a feed.

I was told to use a dummy as I was overfeeding DS. He didn't want a dummy (I didn't want him to have a dummy) - he was a hungry baby. I tried for three nights to cut out the illicit feed but went back to feeding him. That was easier than spending 40mins at some unearthly hour trying to calm him (plus DH works nights so I was on my own).

Eventually he decided he didn't want a very early feed and about three three weeks ago he decided he no longer wanted his 10:30 feed. He's now 6.5 months.

Perhaps try to increase the feed he has just before bed to see if that makes a difference. Also - don't expect the introduction of solids to assist in removing the extra feeds. Did not work for me.

Your son will decide when he's ready to stop.

Thanks for the advice. I have tried putting the dummy back in but it lasts 10 minutes until he realises it isnt food!!

I think that if James is hungry he will still wake. I know Charlotte was until she started having like an extra big feed before bedtime. She ended up sleeping through at about 10 weeks, having said that if she is going through a growth spurt she will wake around 1am like last night & I'm feeling it. I think just let James let you know. He's looking gorgeous by the way:)
