My bubs is nearly 4.5 months old and is being bottle fed. I think he is teething at the moment and I dont know if it has anything to do with it but he will take 50ml and then start grizzling and pulling away. Winding him and trying again doesnt help, the only thing that will make him take more is if I carry him around while feeding him - it seems to 'trick' him in some way into drinking more!

His night feeds are OK, but he still only has around 80 -100 ml.

When he only has his 50mls during the day I try and top him up on fruit and vegies so I know he has a full tummy.

Does anyone else find their bubs dont eat much?

Carls it is probably the teething. Babies seem to go off food for a while during teething. Mine certainly did. Just keep an eye on the wetness of the nappies and I hope the teeth come through quickly. It is so painful for them.

Just wanted to add that maybe it could also be the teat, it might be too slow, if this happens they can get frustrated. So you could try a different teat and see if this helps.

Carls - I am having exactly the same issue! Although as Kade is only 11 weeks old he isn't on solids yet. Today he has had four feeds, all of around 70 - 80 mls. He seems happy enough, so am I worried about nothing?! I don't suppose your little one has encountered this before the possible teething?

I guess he really has been all over the place but I have found that he rarely takes 150ml and I was throwing out so much formula. The funny thing is as soon as I take him to a friends house he DOES take the 150ml! very strange!

Hi Carls,
my dd is also 4.5mths and fussing at feeds lately. but i find if i take her to her room to feed her she'll have a better feed as there isn't so much around to distract her. perhaps you could try this if you aren't already doing this and see if it helps

My bub has always been a bits & pieces feeder.

She'll take what she wants & then later she may want some more. We actually got it down to feeding her when she woke up (about half a bottle), then feeding her the rest when she started to get tired again. Unfortunately this has gotten her into the habit of feeding to sleep, but it doesn't really bother me all that much.

She also gets very distracted when feeding. It can be frustrating, you just have to keep your cool & persevere.

It's only been in the last couple of weeks that she's been able to finish a whole 240ml bottle & she still only does that ocassionally.

my ds started to do this and i found he needed the faster flowing teat
he is now back to 200ml bottles and finishes them in no time at all !

I use Avent bottles & went up to the fastest flow (#4) teat and it did help, but she's still pretty fussy unfortunately!
