Hi everyone

I need some advice please.

I am having trouble with long cycles. I am not sure whether I need to go to the doctors to seek further assistance. Here is the story so far:

Stopped the pill Feb 07
No AF until Dec 07
Started seeing Naturopath Sep 07
Pregnant Feb 08/miscarriage Apr 08
Long Cycles since miscarriage (43, 44, 36 days and this cycle now day 29 no ovulation as yet)

My question is do I go to see a doctor now to see what is going on or do I wait a little while and see how I go.

Thanks in advance for replies

I think they suggest trying for a year and then seek help but it depends upon your age, anyone over 35 they recommend 6 months. Personally considering what you are going through I would give you the same advice given to me "Go get the tests done", ie the gp will run a whole pile of tests on you and sometimes your partner. It was the first step to actually sorting my mess out.

Thanks Samken. That was what I was thinking. I think I will book in this week.

Have you discussed PCO/PCOS with the doc? Back in about '04/'05 my cycles went all over the place after having been 28 days since I was 12 years old. I had an ultrasound and discovered that I had polycystic ovaries.

Despite that I conceived DS after only 1 month, very lucky indeed

No I haven't talked about PCO with the doctor. Thanks for your suggestion :)

It's good to hear success stories!

foxygirl, i only went off the pill in feb08, and started ttc in june... my cycles are all over the place, and im receiving investigation even tho i've only been ttc for 3 months! No point waiting as it doesn't seem i've o'd since starting ttc. Talk to your doctor about PCOS. They will probably do a BT to find out what ur hormones are doing.

Good luck, and :fingerscrossed: they can help you out.

BTW what assistance has the naturopath been able to offer... i have my first appt with one on tues and dont know what to expect

Oh, and when I first went to the doc to see why my period had suddenly vanished for 4 months, she said "Meh, don't worry, just stay healthy and your period should return" I wasn't convinced, it was REALLY unusual for me to go so long without AF, so I told her I really wanted to look further into it so she referred me to an ultrasound clinic.

Then after discovering the cysts on my ovaries I went to see an endocrinologist and he tested to see if I was ovulating (and I was).

Thanks girls for your replies! It's really great to hear from other people about their experiences.

The naturopath first started me on horrible herbs to bring on AF. This took 3 months. At the same time I was taking pre natal vitamins, fish oil, evening primrose oil and zinc and c. Then she started me charting my cycle (once I had one). I had a couple of blood tests to check my iron, hormones, etc. All came back fine. She also suggested starting acupuncture, which I think helped as I got pregnant on my 2nd cycle.
trixiebelle17 I hope that helps and good luck with your appointment.

Thanks LibbyG, it's good that you didnt listen to the doctor.
