Hi,
I am pregnant with # 2 and will be having a VBAC. I would like to have this baby at home but am not sure yet if I will be able to find an IM to come out this far (there are none here so I would need to find one willing to travel).

So my second best option is to find a hospital supportive of VBAC and also supportive of waterbirth. Unfortunately my local Hospital is not supportive of either of these things, well they SAY they are supportive of VBAC but they are not really (ie they expect you to agree to continuous monitoring etc).

SO...can anyone recommend a Sydney Hospital (Private or Public), or a Sydney Obstetrician that encourages waterbirthing, and also VBAC? My parents live in Sydney so I could travel down at about 38 weeks and stay with them until I give birth.

I really haven't decided what I want to do yet, I am just exploring all options.

Thanks in advance :flowerz:

Yes I know and this is exactly what I was speaking to an IM about just before I posted this! The problem is though that I don't really have anywhere suitable to have the HB in Sydney as my parent's house is way, way too small. And my DH has yet to be fully on board with the HB idea, he was getting his head round it if it happened here but doesn't like the idea of travelling for a HB as it sort of defeats the purpose to a degree as you aren't at home. So I was wondering if there are any low-key hospitals in Sydney where my birthing wishes (water birth and minimal intervention) might be respected?

Hi there,

maybe Hornsby Hosp (public) or Bankstown Hosp (public) or Blacktown (public). You could also try the birth centres - RPA, St George, maybe Royal Women's. The birth centres tend to get booked out fairly fast though. Most hospitals will require continuous monitoring and this precludes water birth :( Some say that they are supportive of VBAC until later in pregnancy when they manage to find a reason to do a CS. Just being honest. VBAC rates are very low ... NSW average was about 12% in 2005.
