My 9.5 month old daughter has been practising using a NON-SPILL Tommy Tippy sippy cup since about 6 months when she started solids. She really enjoys the sippy cup and gets excited every time i give it to her. She has no problems getting water out of it, but she doesn't seem to SWALLOW the water properly, and a lot of it dribbles down her chin to such an extent that i would have to change her top if I didn't use a plastic bib and teatowel to catch it each time she uses the cup!!

Has anyone else's baby done this? I am trying to work out if it is something she just needs more practise at, or if the cup itself is at fault? I am breastfeeding at the moment and would have liked to use the sippy cup when I finally stop bfeeding, but if she is this messy I'm not so sure!!

Any advice?

Thanks!

They grow out of it.

It is just a response to having a lot of water in their mouths that isn't deposited right at the back of their mouths. They do get used to it and learn how to hold the water in.

Until then.. Just pop a bib on. :)

Does your DD swallow ANY of it?

I ask because my DD thinks its absolutely hilarious to get a mouth full of water and then open her mouth and let it dribble down her chest.

Wish I was so easily amused

My DD has no trouble drinking when she wants to though so I'm not sure if we are in the same boat.

Good luck!
