Just wondering if your baby falls in to the eat, play, sleep routine? I try to stick to this as much as possible, but often DS only sleeps for 3/4 - 1 hour so often is awake for longer than the recommended time.

What is your bub's "routine"? If he/she wakes up 'early' from a sleep do you try to get him/her back to sleep or do you take him/her out of the cot? What do you do with him/her whilst he is awake? (And how do you get the b****dy ironing done when he/she is awake so much?!!!!!!!!)

My DS was prem, so sleeps way more than normal. He has been a nightmare for the past 2 days though, cause we thought we had the reflux meds just right, but I guess not

But before that, he'd be up at 6am, have a bottle. Then he'd be awake till about 7.30am, he'd then have about a 45 min nap. I then have to drive DD to school at 8.30am & we're usually home by 9.15am. He's generally fallen back to sleep, but either way, he gets put back to bed & naps until around 10 ish when he has another bottle. He's then awake & having a play until about 11 - 11.30, where he goes back down again & is asleep until around 2pm. He then then has another bottle & we leave at 2.30pm to get DD from school. When we get home he has a bit of a play, but usually needs to be back in bed by 4pm. He'll then sleep till around 6 or 7 (if he's not awake by 7 I wake him up for his last bottle.) After his bottle he has a shower with daddy, a little play, but is usually so tired he doesn't play much here. Then back in bed anywhere from 7 - 8.30, depending on when he woke for that last bottle. He then stays in bed until 6 am the next morning. (I have to put his dummy back in around 3am)

But for the last 2 days he's hardly slept & been in so much pain & really grizzly. So I hope he goes back to his old self soon.

I do the ironing for the next day in the afternoon or evening when he's either asleep or laying on the floor.

Cause of his reflux, he spends most of his time in his chair. He loves to watch TV  or his brother & sister. He does get a bit of floor time each day, where he'll either just lie there looking around or under his toy that he loves.

Just wanted to add that this has only started happening in last couple of weeks & I see my DS is older than yours, and before this he was a bit of a nightmare. Then just one day, he changed into this routine, so maybe your DS might do the same in a couple of weeks.

Are you breastfeeding or bottlefeeding? Cause that might also make a difference.

DS has a fairly massive sleep at night. He usually conks out around 8:30/9 o'clock and doesn't get out of bed until 8 in the morning. I change his nappy, and then he goes back to sleep until 11am (usually). He sleeps in mine and DP's bed, and I am breastfeeding, so I just pop him on the boob during the night when he starts to grizzle. He doesn't wake up, though, unless I'm not in the bed with him. If he wakes up and sees I'm not there, he stays awake.
From 11am - 8:30pm he has what we refer to as 'cr*p naps' which last anywhere from 5 minutes to 40 minutes (but usually more like 15 or 20mins). He generally wants to nap after we've been playing on the floor or doing something where he is using a lot of energy, like tummy time. By the time I get him to sleep, I know I don't have long to do whatever I have to do and usually only get say.. a load of washing off the line and half of another load on before he wakes up. Best thing with ironing/cooking and stuff like that is to put him in his bouncy chair or rocker, and chat really loudly to him to keep him amused. I dance around like a dork doing whatever it is I am doing, and if that fails, I make sure he has a blanket or something he can shove in his mouth to amuse himself.

He had reflux at the beginning and slept upright in a rocker (or on my chest and I slept in an armchair), but that seems to have resolved itself and he is doing brilliantly in the bed with us.

Hi!

I stopped stressing about a "routine" and then immediately we fell into one, which currently looks like this:

Liam will wake up anywhere between 6 - 7.30. Feed, change, cuddle, another feed, sleep until approximately 9am.

From there on, its mainly feed, play, feed, nap for approx 30 minutes, throughout the day. The only routine I keep is feed at approx 7pm, bath, another feed, and bed by 8.30pm. I know youre not meant to feed a baby to sleep, but Liam doesnt know this, and I probably do it 60% of the time.

If he wake up during the night these days, its around 11.30-midnight, and I feed, change, feed him to sleep and put him back down.

Well we try to keep to the feed/play/sleep routine but we have the same prob as Casey only catnaps, but when he wakes I try & get him back to sleep, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't:rolleyes: but if it does he will do a hour max...but maybe its cause he sleeps in his bouncer through the day,I will start putting him in his cot soon, hes 16wks & still in a bassinette:laughing:....easier as its just been in our room.
How do i get the ironing done???? Well lets just say it TAKES ALL WEEK!! hahaha DH cousins offers to do it sometimes & I say yup!
I have DS1 to look after & play with aswell....it does get very stressful when they both want me at once :banghead: this happens alot!

our daily routine is.. gets up between 7am - 8:30am.. nappy change, has a play for about 10mins whilst i get bottle ready, feed then play.. then by this time its about 9am.. go back to bed til 11am or i get ready to go out or do whatever i have to do. then when she wakes up at 11:00 - 11:30am has another nappy change then bottle. then she is content to play.. or i put the wiggles or a cd on and we dancing and sing for an hour or two.. then we go for a walk.. usually around 2-3ish has a half an hour nap. then bottle at 4ish. then another play.. then bath time this takes us up to around 6pm then another bottle then.. around 7:30 she goes down for 4 hours.. usually wakes up around 11ish.. i go to bed at 11:30 - 12am.. so if L has woken up by then i give her a dreamfeed and she wont wake up.. this is how our day goes. then repeat.

my friends bub is in the same routine as well.. and is 6 days older so every second day we have a playdate between 11am and 4pm and this tires them out.

Thanks for your replies! I think one of the main problems I have is that DS doesn't show any signs of tiredness, so I have just been putting him down after an hour to an hour and a quarter of awake time. Sometimes he howls for up to an hour (with me patting him) and i am not sure if this means that he is overtired, therefore I have missed the window of opportunity, or because he is not tired enough! It is so frustrating!

Just have to keep up with trial and error I guess!

hi bb. sorry for delayed reply - had difficulty finding time to get on! signs I look for are: yawning, waving arms and legs, flickering eyes, avoiding eye contact. I know he is tired when he starts rubbing his eyes and/or grizzling but i am sure by this stage he is "past it", ie over-tired. Do you think there is something else I should be looking for?

Hi,

I keep an eye out for a general slowing down of movement, and quiet staring, usually after being awake for around one and a half hours. Its all trial and error isnt it?

Its only been the last couple weeks she has started the feed play sleep routine and she pretty much settled into that herself.

I do rock her to sleep.

she wakes from 6am - 7.30am.

She sometimes naps well during the day, sometimes short but usually about an hour or half hour before due for a feed she gets irritable and red eyed and you can tell (well I only just learnt 2 weeks ago) when she is tired, I cradle her and rock her. She fights it but the rocking motion seem sto hypnotise babies and she falls asleep pretty fast.

I dont keep a strict routine. except after the dinner time feed (somewhere between 5 and 7) I bath her like about 6-7.30 pm and I take her to bed with me at 8 or 8.30pm

I feed her to sleep usually for about an hour then she sleeps 10 hours without a night feed.

How do you put babies to bed without feeding them to sleep OR rocking them to sleep. I mean they say you shouldnt do it, but who DOESNT. Maybe when they are 6months + but at this age?? id like to know how!

LOL you and lambkin crack me up.
Summer doesn't last long on her own at all. All our dancing has to be done together just to distract her from whinging.
We boogie around the loungeroom to justin timberlake's sexy back :D

Summer cat naps all day. I barely get a thing done as she doesn't last usually longer then 1/2 hour and half the time it's in my arms because if I put her down she wakes up. She does go down by about 8 - 8.30pm at night, dreamfeed at 10pm and most nights sleeps through. I too look for tired signs, yawning etc and wonder if by the time I put her down she is overtired.

We are doing a day stay with the CHN next week. They are going to observe her feed/play/sleep patterns and provide advice/assistance to see if there is anything I can be doing different/better. Otherwise I'm stuck not getting anything done ever! Not a bad thing I suppose. Would rather cuddle her then iron a shirt for DP - he can go iron his own :D

If I pick up any handy tips/advice from my day stay I will post it on here.

Chais always need to go back to sleep about 1-1 1/2 hours after he wakes up, so I generally know when his sleep times are. I wrap him, put his dummy in, put him to bed awake & he usually goes off to sleep fairly quickly. I don't rock, but only cause I learnt my lesson from my 1st . It took quite a bit of perseverance, but he eventually got the idea. My saving grace this time around was I read the book The Baby Whisperer. She also has a website of the same name, just add .com

hmmm, Baby Whisperer hasn't worked so well for me! kotakai - what do you think works from BW? I'd be interested to see if I've overlooked a crucial point!

My Ds sleeps from around 7pm till 7-8 am. I have all ways put him down to sleep when his been awake. I think that help's a lot. Because if he does wake up, he can put him self back to sleep. I all so did that with DD.

If his asleep I will wake him before he goes into his cot. If babys go down to sleep with mum/dad there, then wakes up with out mum/dad there. I think babys would get up set then it would be hared to get them back to sleep.

At day time I put him down to sleep when his rubbing his eyes, grizzling.
He does't really have set sleep times. I let DS work out when his sleepy. Today he had a 3 hour nap, then a few 45 min naps. DS is all most 4 months old.
After he goes down he might be a little grizzly for a few min. other time he will go to sleep right away. If his really crying I will go in and put the dummy back in, some time's 3 4 times then he will fall asleep.

There has been a few times that he has been crying to much so I get him up. His a has a little more bottle then he'll go back into his cot and fall to sleep.

Yes babys can go down to sleep with out any help from us.
