I've been violently ill with a UTI/Kidney infection and the antibiotics have given me diarrohea as well (Sorry TMI) I've been severely dehydrated and had to have a motillium shot to stop the vomiting. I think my milk supply has dried up? My boobs look very empty instead of engorged like usual and my son will suck for a couple of minutes then pop off and cry until I switch boobs. He is still having enough wees and poos, but has lost a bit of weight (I'm not sure if this is due to him having the runs from antibiotics as well)

Any suggestions?

Lots of fluid, lots of rest, fenugreek, lactation boosting cookies, skin to skin contact.

Your body might have just had a bit of a shock and needs to reboot the system.

Yes, definately lots of water & lots of rest!

I dont know how old your son is but it may be possible that your supply is settling down as well.

This happens where you wont feel engorged anymore, & you will feel a lot more 'empty', as bubs will get the the job done quicker & feeds wont take so long.

As long as he has plenty of wet nappies, he should be fine. Hopefully you can get that rest & get better soon so that things improve for you!

Good luck :)

Motillium is actually something they prescribe to increase supply too.

I'd say your supply has dropped a little due to being sick. Normal supply upping principles apply - allow unrestricted nursing (including comfort sucking), lots of rest, good food. Fenugreek and oats are good natural supply boosters. Pumping extra if you can be bothered - but if your bub has been sick too, then just the extra feeds will be good for supply and baby. Spend the extra time resting instead of pumping. Your breasts know what to do!

Oh, and the switching boobs is what bub does to help stimulate supply, and encourage faster let down. Totally normal, and a sign that everything is working as it should :)

He's 6 months old, so my supply did settle a bit a couple of months ago, I just usually have a LOT of milk (engorged and leaky is normal). DS always has unrestricted access, comfort feeds and the sin of all sins, BF to sleep :p.

Typical, the doctor suggested weaning first  so he could prescribe antibiotics that weren't ok for DS , I said that I would only take antibiotics that were safe for BF. Its always such a battle.

My boobs seem to be filling up a bit now, so hopefully we are on our way to recovery.

Thanks for your help girls.
