Hey guys,

We had a hug-a-bub from the time she was born and used it quite a bit and loved it. Problem is that now i find she is just too heavy to carry in it and my back is quite bad so im not sure if there would be another type of carrier that i should look into getting?

Any ideas on this!? I really love carrying my baby around in the sling/carrier and as she is go go go all the time i think it would help me get things done a bit more plus getting out and about would be easier i think.

We dont have alot of money to spend, but if it is a carrier that i can use until she is about 18months and around about $70 then i think that is pretty feasible and ill save for it or layby it.

Thanks guys! :)

A ring sling or an Ergo. The ERgo is more $$ but you will get up to 5 years use from it.

Yep - I am a fan of the ergo. It will cost you more $$ but will last forever and will have great resale as they so rarely come up for re-sale due to their general fabulousness. There is a WAHM who sells them in Brisbane on the net - www.carryingaway.com.au. She is really helpful.

or there is the patapum which is the same as the ergo but cheaper
www.bubani.com is my friends website or you can buy off her from ebay

Only thing with the patapum is that there are two sizes, so if you love it, you'll end up having to spend more and have two.

thanks annb and carlia, so... whats the difference between the ergo and the patapum?

Ill have more of a closer look tomorrow.

What age do you guys realistically think your baby will be ok to carry? i.e not at break your back status! ;) As i said before my back is quite sensitive and goes out of place very easily so i really want to make sure i get something that will be best for my back but also last for a while because we dont have much money to throw around. The ergo looks great, any more personal feedback on that one would be excellent!!!

Thanks for your help and advice so far guys.

The ergo goes from newborn up in one size.
I carry my 12 kg 18 month old with no dramas and have once carried my 15 kg 3 year old and she was fine too. (She just prefers to walk).

I belive with both carriers you can carry up till they are 3yrs old at least so long as your child wants to be carried in one i guess...my DS is 17mths old and carries in the ergo no problem he weighs bout 11kg, my friend carries in the patapum also 17mths old but weighs a lot more, so i dont think they would be a waste of money, plus if you have another baby you can put a newborn insert in and carry on your front

I got a really cheap $30 backpack style carrier from a 2nd hand babyshop here in Perth recently. I've seen them start on eBay from $40, too. It has an aluminium frame, and is super light... the harness is over the shoulder as well, so pretty safe for bending over, etc.
