Can anyone reccommend a good quality baby moniter. I'm about to move into a 2 storey house and will need one. I can't affort one too flash (you know, with the tv screen or anything) but I need one that picks up noise well and will go through walls ok. Some ideas would be appreciated

I have the tommee tippe one with the teddy on top that acts like a nite lite if u want it to and it has 2 channels coz sometimes if there is another child nearby where the mother uses a monitor it will pick it up.
It was 80$ at kmart
There are so many options out there, try play with each one and see what u like

Thats my big problem - I can't play with them. I live in a small town with not many shops, no kmart, bigw - nothing, so I am going to have to purchase it over the net - probably on ebay.

We used an Angelcare Sound Monitor (in fact I still have it and can sell it, though postage to you might be a bit high). We used it in a spread out single storey home, with no trouble on transmission through brick walls. It will pick up every little noise. DH regularly took the monitor out with him to the backyard or shed while DD was napping. It has 2 channels to minimise interference, works off mains power but both the nursery unit and the parent unit have a battery backup (& low battery indicator light), and the parents unit has lights as well as speakers - useful when watching tv or if the volume gets accidentally turned down. www.angelcare-monitor.com

Hi, we bought a Steelcraft Baby Monitor for $69.95. Pretty basic, plugs in to the wall but you can also run them on batteries. They say they have a range of 250 metres in open space.
I haven't had my baby yet but have had a play with them and they've worked fine in our single story home.

We used an Angelcare Sound Monitor

Thats what we've got. With the movement sensors it gives great peace of mind

I have the Steelcraft one also (it is grey and black). 2 channels, lights that flash when sounds are made, battery or mains power, voice activated or on all the time modes. was about $70 I think and works great for me! It was one of the cheapest ones I could find and I can't complain.

ADDED: just wanted to add that it picks up sounds VERY well.

Personally I hate the damn things!! I had one with my first but only used it for a few weeks and then for some reason I got it into my head that I needed one again for my second! You hear too much....you just don't sleep because you hear every little thing! I had the tommee tippee walkabout mini second time round and I could hear someone elses child!!! Not nice when your hubby works away...if you can hear them...they can hear you! If I was in a huge house then I would probably get one but definately the monitor one $130 in target and sometimes cheaper on ebay...

I just turn mine right down so I only hear crying, babbling etc. Anything else is too quiet to hear.

I couldn't live without mine. It is great for DS because I can catch him just before he wakes up completely and resettle him a lot quicker. Also good for when they are sick.

Yeah I need one for a few reasons though ladies. I am moving into a big place but thats not the main problem - I have a major hearing problem and can't hear my son if he is in the next room so all the extra noise will not worry me at all as chances are I won't hear it anyway

We also have a tommee tippee one, that's really good. Haven't had a problem with it at all. The first one we had, however - it was a sound-sensored one, so it was off, until is sensed a sound, then turned on. It buzzed and carried on all the time, couldn't have it on because it drove me batty.

Hi we live on 1/2 acre property with lots of garden so we needed a monitor to be used while outside.

I purchased a Roger Armstrong Sleep Easy monitor from KMart for about $100 and it is great. Can hear the boys from any part of the property and often have to turn it down as it is to loud.
