Hiya,

My dd is 2.2 yrs and i've been attempting to toilet train (or persuade) her to use the potty but only in the morning and night when we aren't out doing something. I'm sure she knows what she's meant to do but i don't want to push her... it can't harm her to get her used to sitting and when the time comes she'll hopefully be ready? I've asked the midwife and she said to leave it to the summer.........

What am I doing wrong?

I went through the same thing with my 2.5 year old not so long ago. She had shown an interest in coming and watching myself and her dad on the toilet. I bought her a potty to sit on when she came in with us. I left her nappy on until she asked me to sit on the potty without it.....this never happened. I walked past the toilet one day and there she was sitting on the big toilet, nappy on the floor, doing a poo!! I asked her after that if she wanted to wear knickers and no more nappies (except to bed for the time being) and she said yes so we went from there. It took her nearly 8 weeks to master the urge but everyday she improved a little bit.

I truly believe that kids will let you know when they are ready. Maybe ask your daughter each day if she wants knickers or nappies that day and that way she will be aware that it is up to her when she is ready to use the potty!

I know how frustrating and difficult it can be but remember, stay calm and smile!!

Best of Luck.
