I saw mine for the first time a couple of weeks ago and was really worried but it was good. He listened to me when I said I'm TTC and DON"T want to go on the pill like my GP wants me to. He also put me on metformin to help with IGT. Basically he went through diet options and whats best for me and gave me some really good advice. He's also doubting the gyno's previous diagnosis on PCOS:smiliedance::smiliedance:

But yeah the endo will more than likely weigh you, get your height and then the rest is depending on your notes from you refering dr.

Thanks for that CD! I really hope your results reveal that you do not have PCOS :fingerscrossed:

Trixi, when I made my appointment I was just wanting to get my pcos symptoms under control because as I'm sure you aware we are at a much higher risk of deeloping diabetes, high blood pressure, etc etc later on in life. since then though, Dh and I have decided to TTC, so I hope he can help with that. I'm within a healthy weight range, my gp has put me on met 1000mg but it doesnt seem to be doing much :rolleyes:

Will he send me for heaps of BTs, etc?

I have to have bloods done before I go back but thats it. I spose it depends on the endo and your situation.

Good luck with it.

hey cmd, the endo i'm seeing requested a copy of my BT's before he would make an appt to see me, and would have sent me off for some first if i hadn't have just had them done. I guess it depends on the endo :) have u got any copies of previous BT's?

how long have u been on met for? Are you insulin reistant? Sorry for all the questions, i'm just wondering as my GTT came back with insulin levels of 20 after the drink (60 seemed to be the upper cut off for problems) but i have been reading that some doctors treat u as insulin resistant even if your GTT comes back normal and i am just wondering if they will put me on met... im also healthy weight but at the upper end of the range...

Good luck tomorrow... let me know how it goes!!!!

my glucose levels were at 10.7 after the 2 hours and I was told the cut off for actually being diabetic was 11. With this and other results I was told I was impaired glucose tolerant. I would think with levels of 20 they'd be worried.

hey chunkydunks... my glucose were 4 after two hrs, the insulin was 20, sorry for the confusion

hey another question, sorry that i'm hijacking ur post cmd... are you guys seeing a reproductive endo or just an endo? do you know the difference and should i be seeing a RE considering im ttc? the guy im seeing is supposed to be up there in PCOS research etc

I have no idea. He's one of the only endo's in my area so I spose he does both and he seemed to know a bit about fertility but i think he concentrates on diabetes.

By the sounds of it you're seeing the right person.

And it was my mess up. I didn't read the insulin bit. Pays to pay attention.

trixi, I've only been on met for about 2 months now. I havn't done a GTT recently, last one I did was the first one you do (forget what it's called) when you are pregnant and I got a big fat 10.7. So I did the 2 hour one which I think is like a GTT right?:o Anyway, that one came back all normal, so i really don't know. I have a feeling he'll be sending me for a GTT anyway and bloods. I asked my referring GP for a request to get bloods done but she was like "oh don't bother levels with pcos never change:confused:" I was like, um yes they do! She was like no no, don't think she understaood my request (language barrier) Anneeeeeeway, yes you are right though, from all the research I have done on PCOS, apparently most endos will put you on it regardless of whether or not you are IR as this seems to work? So yes, he will most likely put you on met anyway.

And the endo I'm seeing is just an Endo, just last week I tried to find a reproductive endo but could'nt find any here in Perth ????

I will let you know how tomorrow pans out

Well, I only just got back from my endo appt.

In a nutshell, he beleives (from examining me and heaps of questions) that I only have very mild PCOS and that I am relatively fertile and healthy considering!
So he has given me a referral to get heaps of bloods done and then I see him in 3 more weeks with the results and he'll review what medications I may need if any. He wants me to stay on Metformin for now. He also said that he beleives that me still BF is interfering with my cycles and hindering Ovulation. So he said that he thinks weaning A will help with that. which is fine, am soooooooo over BF and have been wanting to wean her now anyway.

I was very impressed, he checked everything and asked me heaps of questions and said it was good I was wanting to get my hormones sorted so that I can lower my risks of getting diabetes etc in future. Oh and he doesn't beleive that I am IR. So, we'll see!:fingerscrossed:

Will let you all know how the next appointment goes.

(hope the above has helped you a little trixie)

Hey, I went to my Endo in February for PCOS and due to a miscarriage. My Endo did all the typical things, weight, height talk about diet etc. I also had blood tests done.

She increased my met to 1000mg x2 a day and took me off my thyroid meds - she thought that was more than likely the cause of my miscarriage.

She wanted to see me in May to make sure all is going fine with the meds and to have an ultrasounds of my organs to make sure they are all healthy which they were. She then gave me the go ahead to start TTC. She now doesn't want to see me until I am 8 weeks pregnant or has given me a blood test form to have done if I am not preg in November and then go back to her.

:fingerscrossed: that it works and you don't have to go back to see her in November!
