Hi,
just like the title says i would love to know what books you read to your mini. I went to the book store today to try find some sweet books but there is so many to choose from and ended up getting books i wasnt looking for.
I have all the dr sues books but want some nice night time stories before bed.
Any suggestions would be lovely :)
I 'read' DD a couple of stories that are nice and colourful and that have feely bits. I wouldnt worry too much at this point about the content of the stories or reading a full story to them as they are too young to really absorb it. One story that DD loves is hide and seek bunnies by Fiona Watt. Its is just a really simple story and the bunnies have fluffy bellies and there are different materials for her to interact with. More than anything, I think the sound of your voice reading them anything is a good thing :). I sometimes read DD part of my novel and she sits there happily for a few minutes listening to me. Hope this helps.
Our little one loved and still loves John Butler books. His favourites are Ten in the Meadow and Can You Cuddle Like A Koala Bear. I guess it's the rhythm that he loved when he was little now he actually reads along with us - he just turned 2. He also enjoys Mem Fox's, Where's The Green Sheep, Never Say Boo To A Goose and Time For Bed.
For the very little ones it's the sound of your voice that comforts them.

Good Night Moon is a classic, DD loves it and she's only 4 months. I think its by Margaret Brown (its in DD's room and she's having a nap so I could post author later). It was written in the 40's or 50's and has been a popular favourite bedtime book ever since.
I'm also a fan of Mem Fox books, and i really like the very hungry caterpilla (you can get in it a board book now so it wont get ruined).
Im really into all the classics, Teddy bears picinic, Wombat Stew, possum magic etc... :)
Oh and i cant really remember the name of the book but any bookshop should know what your talking about;
I think its called "I love you this much" Its about a mummy hare and a baby hare telling each other how much they love each other eg. " I love you to the moon and back".
It is the most beautiful story!!!
It's called "Guess how much I love you?"
I'm reading lots of Mem Fox - Possum Magic and Time for Bed are favourites, the Beatrix Potters, Always by Anna Pignataro, and Just like my Dad by David Melling. We also have a few "Whose" books by Jeannette Rowe - "Whose feet", "Whose family" - there's a whole series, and also "That's not my... " bunny, teddy bear, doll, etc. They're published by Usborne. The favourites are the ones with flaps, or touchy feely bits.
Because all our family live interstate I made a book for my DD with photos of everyone I took on my last visit and a little story about each person. We read it all the time so she won't freak out when we visit and virtual strangers want to hug and kiss her!:laughing:
I read a lot of Dr Seuss, but its mainly for my benefit! ;)

Everything! He loves his Rainbow Fish bath book (we got it at Angus and Robertson) and we bought some sparkly board books from a couple of different $2 shops and he loves them! Phoenix also like books he can touch - the "Thats not my..." range are great, they're the Usborne touchy-feely books and we got ours at Angus and Robertson. Cloth books are good too - we actually got the Cat in the Hat cloth book, which is fabulous!
