My little man is about 3 and a half months now and Im having difficulty settling him down to sleep for a midday nap. In general, his routine is pretty Ok -
- he sleeps from 8pm - 7.30am - mostly only wakes once through the night for a feed for 15 minutes, alhough this week he slept right through 4 nights in a row (yay!)
-awake at about 7.30am, feeds and is back in bed by 8.30-9am for 1 hour,
- feeds at 10.30 and then by 11.30am is tired and needs a sleep but won't sleep in his cot ( I'll go into this later!)
- Awake again for a feed at 1.30, then awake and play
- 3-3.30pm Walk in stroller for an hour or so and usually sleeps for 30-40mins in the stroller
- 7.30-8pm bath and bedtime
(sometimes will fall asleep in Dad's arms for half and hour if really knackered at about 6-6.30)

My problem is that I just cannot get him to sleep in his cot for the lunchtime nap at around 11.30-12. Its not a problem at all for the nap just after his first feed in the morning, he will happily go down in the cot and drop off by himself. He is also pretty good about going to sleep straight after he has had his last feed of the day at 7.30-8pm.
However at lunchtime, the only way I can get him to sleep is to lie down right next to him on our bed with the dummy in (he does't need the dummy to fall asleep at any other time of the day?!) and he is usually asleep within 5-10 mins for about 1.5-2 hours. I am wary of creating a sleep association with this but I just don't know of any other way to get him to sleep at this time of day.

To be honest, at the minute, I don;t really mind that much because I'm quite happy to have a nap myself in the middle of the day and I really enjoy holding him close like that. Sometimes though I wish that I could have that time to myslef and get on with other things that I need to do. It could also create a problem when i go back to work.

Has anyone got any suggestions as to how I can get him to sleep by himself at that time?

I'd really appreciate any suggestions from other Mums.
:fingerscrossed:
