View Full Version : Sensitive gag reflex ... How long to dissappear ???
I know this is probably something thats going to vary hugely & is possibly a stupid question but still LOL !
When did your refluxer's gag reflex settle down or has it never done so ?
Im just curious because well really I was getting so used to not having to deal with projectile spews anymore just a few here & there yet now that we are trying more chunky stuff as soon as something is too lumpy/ chunky up it comes & everything else he has had for the day it seems
Its also really disturbing now that he is crawling & moves along then starts spewing everywhere.
So not helpful for keeping a neat house !
So I want to know the magic number ... So say something like 18mths ... I can do that its only what another 5mths & then tell me it vanishes into thin air ... PLEASE !
I know I shouldnt complain cause there are older kids still vomitting etc :o
Haha I dont think you want me to answer this Ally!
Edwards has gotten a lot better since he turned 14 months, but it put that down to him walking more and his meda increasing to 30mg of omeprazole.
He still will only eat tiny amounts of lumpy food but at least it's not an automatic vomit.
Hang in there it will improve!
Hehehe yeah I think im living in fantasy land LOL !
The GI did say to hang in till he starts walking cause that should really help ... BAH ! lol ! He isnt good on his legs at all so that wont be happening soon !
He is now on just 6mls of Zantac & 30mg of Losec with no E-mycin ... Which is where im worried that the spewing is back because of the reduction in Zantac & no E-mycin. Dunno.
The other day Boof was rather horrified cause G had grabbed a piece of apple off him & tried to eat some. Which resulted in G spewing everywhere .... All over Boof
Its so damned hard trying to tell Boof to keep food away from G ... Does my head in !!!! Yesterday he gave him some muffin ... With dairy in it :crying:
It must be hard,
Especially as boof is so young and probably thought he was being nice to his lil bro!
Walking does help and very gradually increasing the texture of their food can help to.
I think I spent 6 months trying to get Edward to cope with lumps and he would vomit each time!
So plenty of sympathy here.
I think people understand Edwards more as well because he was vented/OG tubed for so long kwim.
ArGhH!!! I have been away for a long time and only catching up where everyone is at and you have been through the mill hun....
I definitely agree that reflux does improve as they develop and more so when they begin to walk.... I don't know if you remember much about me or DS but he suffered shocking reflux and we saw improvements when he could sit up and then again when we were established on solids and then as he started to crawl around and become more active we saw a little relapse, only because crawling doesn't exactly assist with the whole 'gravity' thing of keeping things down....
Although we were able to wean DS off the meds and was pain free. We still had to battle the upchuck for quite sometime.... He is now 15 months (they grow way too fast) and he started walking 2 weeks ago and guess what????.... I only need ONE hand to count how many times he has regurgitated..... He is alot happier too and sleeping better..... Gravity works hun..... Not long for you.... That's my bet....
DD's went at 15 weeks, within 6 hours of taking her to the chiropractor to have her neck adjusted. It was way out, her head sitting forward and causing sensitive gag reflex. It took a few sessions to get it totally right, but even after the first session the difference was remarkable.
