Hey there,
I am cooking a roast for dinner for some friends that are coming over and Ive got no idea how long to cook it for & what temperature...I dont want to have to keep checking it...Can anyone help me?
It is: Roast Pork Scotch Fillet
Weighs: 600g
Cooking in: Fan Forced Oven.
Cheers
Half an hour at 180 for starters, then you work on half an hour per 500g
So an hour and a quarter at 180 should be more than enough.
Hope it goes well.:)
Cheers.
p.s. make sure your oven is at temp before you put it in ;)
Stephanie Alexander whose book "the cook's companion" is my bible says:
"calculate the cooking time by allowing 30 minutes per 500g. Start the meat at 200 c for the first 20 minutes the ensure that the fat crisps properly then reduce the heat to 180C. If you have requested a skinned pieced of loin or leg the meat can be cooked more gently at 160 or 180. Tes the meat near the end of the cooking time. A fine skewer should slip through without resistance and the juices should run claer. Transfer the meat to a warm place to rest, loosely covered with foil."
I don't cook pork myself but hope this helps.
