I have been thinking about establishing a vegie garden and would like a worm farm compost that produces a liquid fertiliser to compliment it.

Also, I'm thinking about getting one for the dog poo for our 2 border collies..atm we put it in a plastic bag and in the big bin (:o).

My question is can you use the liquid from a dog poo worm farm on vegies or is it only best for other non edible plants?
Do you still worm your dog...and if so what do you do with the poo while it 'matures' and de medicinises (:laughing:yes made up word)...?

We only have a small back yard...and don't really want an 'open' compost for the kids to play in.:barf:

So any suggestions?

Thanks:D

You cannot (should not) put dog poo in a worm farm or compost heap because dogs eat meat. Meat products shouldn't be composted because they don't break down quickly, and attract rodents and other nasties. Sorry, I don't actually know the precise technicalities, but I have had this discussion with my DH (who knows this stuff way better than me).

The bin is the best place for doggy's droppings.

I've googled around and there are actual breeds of worm for special dog poo composts!

But I think they are for dog poo only...and to be honest I think I'd rather just use the liquid worm poo on non edible plants - I was just trying to see if any one has done different.

So...any recommendations for a clean 'normal' worm farm...I was talking to a friend of the family today and he has one set up in an old bath tub...but I'd also like it to be kid friendly:D

We used to have a Reln worm farm. It was basically just some medium sized tubs that stacked on top of each other for rotation, with a tap for the liquid to be dispensed.

If you head to Bunnings or similar you will find a range of different ones.

We got one from Bunnings,it's great!

Cost about $80 for the tubs and then you buy the worms seperately.

Easy to set up and good to be able to use your scraps.

The vegies love the worm poo.

no bunnings here.

might see if the local nursery can order them in, or try online.
