Hello ,
I've been on Clomid for 5 cycles and I am still not pregnant. My doctor suggested a laparoscopy as everything else seems to be fine.
- Could you please tell me in detail how this works, how many scars you are left with, how long recovery takes, can you try to fall pregnant the next cycle after the operation, etc.
- Is laparoscopy the next thing or can IUI be done without having to undergo surgery?
- Has anyone had it done by Dr. Nelmes (Gosford) at North Gosford Private?
I'd appreciate your help! Thanks heaps

I can't answer your other questions, but I can answer this one:

Basically, they put you under anaesthetic, pump your abdomen full of gas to expand it out, and then put a little camera in through your belly button to have a look around. They don't cut your tummy open so no scars - just a little tiny one in your belly button that you won't notice, and also a little tiny cut down where your pubic hair is, so you never see that one either.

My recovery took about 5 days, because I had to have scar tissue removed so there was a bit done in there. I was told that if they have a look, find that it's perfect and close you up without doing anything, then the recovery is heaps faster. Afterwards there is still some gas in there that comes out over the next few days, which you actually feel as shoulder pain (weird, huh!). I couldn't walk without holding my tummy for a few days.

You can TTC again as soon as you feel comfortable. I didn't feel like it for a week or two afterwards.

Hope this helps! :hugs: All the best

Hi Mimi10,

I had a laparoscopy on Friday. I am still feeling a little sore and sorry for myself. It wasn't too scary, I went in for day surgery - under a general anesthetic. The whole procedure took about 1 - 1.5hrs. I have three small incisions with stitches. One through my belly button and two on my pubic bone. They found a little bit of endo but they also did a dye test to see if my tubes were blocked whilst I was knocked out, one of my tubes is blocked. I hope this helps.:flowerz:

Are you having a hysteroscopy too? they generally do one of them while they do a lap, with this they just put a tiny camera downstairs have a look inside your uterus, check make sure your tubes aren't blocked. Recovery for me took about 2 weeks but that's because i got an infection, the majority of people heal really quickly good luck.

Thanks you so much for all your entires. That has solved some of the questions I had.

After how many months of trying to conceive did you decide to have the laparoscopy done?

think this one has pretty much been answered by shelle. I had mine with a hysteroscopy 3 weeks ago. All was fine and clear and I was back at work on the Tuesday (had it on the Friday) I was fine by the Saturday morning but a little tender and delicate.

My fs wouldn't go to IUI without the lap first to make sure my tubes were clear.

My lap was after 14 months TTC, but only after 4 cycles with fs because Clomid didn't look to be our cure so he wanted to move onto IUI.

:fingerscrossed: for you

mimi10 - I had my laparoscopy on the Wednesday, started taking clomid on the Thursday for that cycle and fell pg in that cycle. I had been trying for 11 months and was on my 5th and last cycle of clomid before going to IVF. I felt like someone had used my tummy as a punching bag, when I mentioned this to my doctor he promised it wasn't him :P I recommend getting it done, I know it has worked for a number of women and if it saves going on to spend a fortune in IVF all the better! Best of luck!

Sarell - Can you call them and explain how much pain you are in, maybe they can try and slot you into a cancellation??? I am sorry I am not in your position so can't know what you are going through but being a public hospy guessing the waiting list won't be short. I hope you can get them to list you for a cancellation to see the specialist so things move faster!
