My niece is 4 months old. She will not go to sleep before 11pm, but will sleep until 9am. My sister-in-law doesn't know how to move the time frame back so she'll go to sleep around 9 or 10.

Would it be a bit controversial to suggest waking her around 7am so that her day started earlier? This way her feed times would be earlier all day and she may be ready for bed earlier. My DS (now 6 mo) used sleep from 3 in the afternoon til 2am when he was about 6 weeks old so we had to wake him for feeds in late afternoon/early evening to adjust his sleeping clock. He had the right idea about having a long sleep every day but just not at the right time!! He adjusted really well (it did take a couple of weeks to perfect but it was better every day) and now sleeps from 6.30pm til 7.30am!!

Good luck!

I agree. Try waking her earlier and adjusting feed times It may take a little while for her to get used to it. It's just a matter of adjusting her body clock as she's having a good long sleep, she just needs to start it ealier. Try waking at seven instead and then she should go off to sleep two hours earlier....

I saw the "Baby Whisperer" on one of the morning shows about a month ago and I listened with interest as I wanted to change DD's bedtime from 9pm to a bit earlier (now 7.30pm). Apparently you adjust their wake time by 15 minutes each day so they end up getting up earlier and hence all their day feeds are earlier, as is their bedtime :D

I think the 15 minute increment provides a gradual process so that bubs isn't disbturbed too much, otherwise you might end up with a cranky baby!

I've definately got to try this. Our bub goes to sleep by 4pm and then is ready for getup at 4am, with a few feeds in between. Can I ask though, when you woke him for a feed, did you 'get him up' so to speak or just fed him in La La land?

Initially he wouldn't wake enough for the bottle so we had to wet his face with a washcloth to get him a bit more alert (upon advice from CHN). Eventually he used to wake himself enough to drink and then went straight back to bed. It was brilliant, I wish we had done it earlier!!

DSinL has the munchkin in bed by 7 now. She gives her a dream feed at 10 and she will sleep until 2.30am. Then they are waking her at 7am. Her last feed is at 6pm. I have recommended that she do feeds every 3 hours during the day. DSinL says that if she misses the 10pm feed she wakes up at 12.30am and then again at 2.30am. I can't remember how many feeds a day they are supposed to have at 4 months. I also said if she only does 45 minute sleeps during the day as long as she is happy and sleeps at night that should be okay. My DB is kind of relying on books and I keep telling him to not take it as gospel.
