Not sure where to put this query so will try this subforum.

My 3mth old daughter, Anaki, has disliked driving in cars since day one. Today we did a trip from Goodna (Ipswich Qld) to the Southport (Gold Coast) - takes around an hour. She cried from the minute we put her in her car seat to the minute we got there.:gloomy: I've tried singing to her. I've tried sitting in the back seat with her. I've tried CD's that play womb music, lullabies etc. I'm at my wits end :banghead: as my husband and I have just purchased a 4wd and we would like to do a lot of weekend drives - as we used to do when we were childless.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to settle her in the car or what might be wrong with her?? Or even share with me if your child doesn't like the car.

I felt so bad today as I drove home without stopping and she was crying her little lungs out. I didn't want to stop because I just wanted to get her home to settle and I felt so bad that she cried for an hour without comfort - other than me singing etc. :crying:

That would be a very very long trip back from the coast indeed! I'm sorry I don't have any suggestions. It sounds like you have tried everything! Our daughter loves the car - so long as it is moving! I've come start cursing red lights quite violently under my breath...

oh hon.. some kids just dont like the caR!! JAck cried (screamed really) even trip until he got old enough that we could turn him around... nad he STILL cries sometimes!!! we have tried everything too (sitting in the back.. toys... music .. etc etc)

- we just learnt to try to time the trip so that it coincided with his sleep time... at least he would cry himself to sleep .. so 1/2 the trip was peaceful for all ..

its not easy  and it certainly makes driving stressful :( so :hugs:

I feel for you - my brothers youngest was the same.

we were lucky with our DS he loved the car from day one which was a blessing for us because we have been on so many long car trips the longest was from Syd to Hervey Bay QLD which with regular stops to get him out of the car even if it was for 10-15 mins took us 16 hours. The first time he was 13 weeks old.

Have you got any mobiles or toys for her. We bought a mobile that has a suction thingy on it that you can put on either the back or side window that he loved. Plus we were like Veve and timed our trips with his sleep times where possible especially the long haul ones as we would set off at 2-3 in the morning so he would sleep for hours to begin with which set him in a good mood luckily.

My first born did exactly the same thing. Would scream his little lungs out from the moment we put him in the car till we reached our destination. It was so bad, my hubby refused to drive with him alone because of the crying. Unfortunately it didn't improve until we could turn his car seat around to a forward facing position. I think then he could see us and didn't mind it so much.....Hang in there it should get better.........

Hi, my son used to be the same but it has improved significantly between the 3.5 month mark and now. I think that now he can look around more and entertain himself. I have also found that it is a bit better if I don't sit in the back with him, as he can't understand why I can't just pick him up when he wants!

It may well get better as she gets older (here's hoping!!)
