Ive' just gotten my 2 month old on a routine but am not sure if it's right for her. My main problem is knowing when to put her down for a nap. I thought we could all fill out this little questionaire and see what everyone is doing so maybe we can all pick up some tips:

Bub's age:

Do you have a routine?:

If so, what is it and does it work?:

How often do you feed and how many feeds per day?:

How long is bub usually awake for at a time?:

What is the longest stretch your bub has ever slept overnight?:

How does your bub go to sleep?

How many naps does your bub have each day and how long are they?

OK, I'll go first....

Bub's age: 9 weeks, 2 days

Do you have a routine?: Yes - just started it last week.

If so, what is it and does it work?: Based on babywhisperer book. Eat, Activity, Sleep on a 3 hour cycle at present. Usually between 1 hour 15 and 1 hour 30 awake time. We have been able to follow it pretty well in the last week - prior to that it wasn't working because she was taking too long to get to sleep, so she'd get fed again before the sleep.

How often do you feed and how many feeds per day?: 7 feeds per day usually at these times:

6am, 9am, 12pm, 3pm .... then the evening gets a bit messy. I am for 6pm and then bed with a dreamfeed around 9:30pm (I can't stay up any longer!), but sometimes she doesn't settle so I feed her again around 8pm and ditch the dream feed. The last feed is when she wakes during the night which can be anywhere between 1:30am and 4am.

How long is bub usually awake for at a time?: 1.5 hours, although I wonder if she can last longer - sometimes she doesn't seem ready for sleep then.

What is the longest stretch your bub has ever slept overnight?: 7.5 hours, but 6 - 6.5 hours is more common.

How does your bub go to sleep? She has learnt to go to sleep in the cot in the last week or 2. I wrap her in 2 wraps. She usually cries for a bit first. I comfort her in the cot, sometimes pick up if she gets too upset, but she always falls asleep in the cot, usually sucking her left hand.

How many naps does your bub have each day and how long are they? 4 naps, between 1-2 hours in length.

heres mine!

Bub's age: 27weeks (6.5 months)

Do you have a routine?: yes , kinda

If so, what is it and does it work?: Basically she wakes between 6-7am, give her a feed in bed, change her, put her in her rocker in the lounge with a toy till i sort the other kids out for school,
8am, on my bed, no nappy while i shower (i can see her while in the shower)
then i dress her and myself take kids to school stop at corner shop for supplies if necessary home by 9:45. Feed the other boob, put to bed awake where she falls asleep herself. She sleeps approx 1hour while the washing machine goes (sleeps the full cycle lol)
i get her up, sit her in bumbo chair outside hang out washing, play, go visiting etc at about 12.30 give or take half an hour, she will have some lunch of steamed veg and a breastfed and back to bed again between 12-1 depending on what we are doing. she sleeps till 2-3 and then its off to get kids from school. She has breast again when she wakes or soon after.
Daddy gets home by 3 so he plays with her for a bit and take turns with her while we do dinner at 5 he feeds her dinner (which she usually refuses anyway) We then eat out dinner while she whinges in her high chair!! lol so i shovel mine in pretty quick! i then put her on the bed again at about 5.30 no nappy to play while i rinse dishes and run her bath, she bathes 5.45-6 approx then i massage her and sing to take up some time till about 6.30 when she has breast again and goes to bed for the night.
she wakes at various times through the night sometimes at 10.30 sometimes at 5, depending on her day and i just give her breast till she falls asleep. Some nights i feed her 3 times others once.

How often do you feed and how many feeds per day?: 6+

How long is bub usually awake for at a time?:
1-3 hours has even done a 4 hour stint!

What is the longest stretch your bub has ever slept overnight?: 11 hours about 2-3 times in her life

How does your bub go to sleep? she self settles, if she cries i go lay in there for 5 min and leave her, if she still wont sleep i get her out of bed, play for ten min and try again.

How many naps does your bub have each day and how long are they? 2 short ones morning and arv and 1 big one after lunch
although sometimes she misses a nap if we are out or she is unwell and the whole routine changes, especially if she has a growth spurt,,but usually in a day or two she goes back to her routine. I am not hung up her day routine, its the night time bath, singing, bonding that is important to me so she has a good night sleep.

Her fussy time is between 4-5 as of course with 3 other children it is hectic, we have homework, dinner, kids argueing etc but we try not to worry to much, she never is leave to scream her guts out or anything, if she is just grizzling we just talk to her or sing or the other kids play with her for a bit. Most kids have the arsnic hour bout dinner time anyway!

Bub's age:

10 weeks

Do you have a routine?:

No. We do feed-play-topup-sleep though. Anymore structure than that always seems to go awry so I don't stress about it.

If so, what is it and does it work?:

I watch for my baby's tired signs and feed when he wakes from his naps/sleeps.

How often do you feed and how many feeds per day?:

I have no idea  He feeds roughly 3 hourly during day and night and I give top ups during the day. I would say at least 12 times minimum?? I like breastfeeding so the number of feeds is not an issue for me.

How long is bub usually awake for at a time?:

He only lasts about 45min-1hour before he gets cranky.

What is the longest stretch your bub has ever slept overnight?:

About 7 hours but he isn't at the moment.

How does your bub go to sleep?

By himself in his cot, wrapped.

How many naps does your bub have each day and how long are they?

Maybe 4?? He never sleeps beyond 4:30 in the afternoon though so he is awake then until going to bed at 7pm.

Bub's age: Nearly 6 weeks

Do you have a routine?: Nah not yet

If so, what is it and does it work?: -

How often do you feed and how many feeds per day?:Around8 in a 24 hour period

How long is bub usually awake for at a time?: Varies but usually 1 -1.5 hours

What is the longest stretch your bub has ever slept overnight?: 6 hours

How does your bub go to sleep? Has a feed and we either rock him to sleep then put him to bed or if he is really tired feed then swaddle (arms out) and put him in bed on his side (using SIDS approved sleep positioner). He sleeps in our bed next to me and the wall.

How many naps does your bub have each day and how long are they? Never counted but rough guess would be 4 -5. They can last between 1 - 3 hours.

Bub's age: 5 weeks

Do you have a routine?: I think so... he kinda made one him self:yelclap:

If so, what is it and does it work?:
usually has a feed at 2-3am then wakes at 5-6am (has 4 - 5 hrs sleeps during the night) then feeds at 9am, sometimes 2nd hourly then has a massive 5hr sleep then feeds at 3ish 6ish 9ish etc...

How often do you feed and how many feeds per day?: 8 feeds per day

Bub's age: 8+ weeks

Do you have a routine?: Sorta - just not on my terms!

If so, what is it and does it work?: Day: 2-3 short naps (half hour or so), Night: down between 6pm & 7pm, feed 10.30pm, back down by 11.30pm, feed 2.30am/3am, back down by 4.30am, feed 6.30am/7am. Really try to follow the Feed, Play, Sleep routine. TRY being the operative word...

How often do you feed and how many feeds per day?: every 2-3 hours during the day (on demand) for anywhere between 15 & 30 mins, total of about 8 feeds per day (maybe 9).

How long is bub usually awake for at a time?: He gets tired after about an hour and a quarter / and hour and a half, but doesn't alway go to sleep. Has been known to stay awake from lunch until dinner time (unfortunately). Have just told my hubby that we are going to really focus on the routine now - he really needs more sleep!!

What is the longest stretch your bub has ever slept overnight?: 6 hours - once. Usually 4 hours.

How does your bub go to sleep? Depends - has been known to fall asleep on the boob, but usually I put him in his cradle and pat/rub him to sleep with his dummy in and "shushing" him. Often will only settle in his vibrating bouncer during the day. The shushing does seem to work well.

How many naps does your bub have each day and how long are they? 2-3 short half hour naps and 1 long 2-3 hour sleep (today it was nearly 4 hrs).

Having said all of the above, I went to a sleep, settling & routines session today and got lots of good tips. Have resolved to focus on getting Sam better day sleeps - the midwife says he needs at least an hour each day sleep. I think I pick him up too quickly - he can just stir and go back to sleep and I think I jump the gun a bit. I have a "routines" ebook and a "putting them to sleep" ebook if anyone is interested - just pm me your email address and I will send it on. :flowerz:

Bub's age: 8 weeks today

Do you have a routine?: Sort of

If so, what is it and does it work?: Feed, play, sleep and roughly based on the routines suggested in the book 'Save our Sleep' by Tizzie Hall (which is fantastic). I wake Poppy at 7 - 7.30am for a feed and to begin the day (regardless of if she woke at 5.30 for a feed). She plays, then is back to bed. She doesn't sleep the full time suggested, she is a bit of a catnapper. Sometimes I can get her back to sleep, other times I put her in her swing or carry her for a while. She feeds every 3-4 hours and I try to get her to take 3 naps. 5.45pm is bath time, then 6 - 6.30 is feed time and I often get DH to give her a bottle of EBM. In bed by 7 and dream feed at 10.00pm. She usually gets me up once in the night at around 4am then straight back to sleep.

How often do you feed and how many feeds per day?: 5 or 6 plus dream feed.

How long is bub usually awake for at a time?: Not long, around an hour before she gets the grizzles because she doesn't have proper day sleeps.

What is the longest stretch your bub has ever slept overnight?: 9 hours, which is starting to become more regular thank god!

How does your bub go to sleep? In a cosy bed insert in her cot, awake.

How many naps does your bub have each day and how long are they? I try to get her down for 3 naps - 2 for 2.5 hours and one for an hour. But she usually wakes after 40mins - 1 hour!

Wow, I think this is fascinating! We all seem to be doing so well in our own ways. :yelclap:

Keep 'em coming!

Oh, and I'm jealous of those 10 and 12 hour sleeps!
