Hi
I'm just wondering what I should do about my DD. She gets upset when other babies cry, yell out or vocalise in some way. She has always been like this, now at ten months it is getting to me. I thought she'd grow out of it by now. I have always tried to get her to play with other babies, (we go visiting our friends babies once a week) She will play happily with a baby until they make a noise then she'll cry. I'm not sure what to do about this. I have taken her away from the situation. the other day i just left her for a while (I thought she might calm down and get used to it) But that made her cry more. She's just so anti-social!! What is the best way to deal with this? Apart from living like hermits!

That four lettered word.......TIME. It will get better, my son was a bit like this and I used to feel inadequate around the mums group at times. I never made a fuss or tried to make him get over it, just offered him my arms when he needed it and he grew out of it. I think for us it was about making him feel safe. The ironic thing was one of the mums who made a few comments about my son ended up with her son not wanting to socialize at all. Wouldn't go near anyone else and stayed by her no matter what. I found some comfort in that!

Hmmm the dude used to scream if another baby started crying, the other mothers used to laugh at him, but I didn't think it was that funny. He is 9 months now, and has grown out of it to a certain extent, but if another baby cries really loudly around him, I just try to distract him. And I really would worry too much, I think it is the noise they don't like, rather than the baby.
