Now that im preg dh and i are defintely saying no more. I wanted to know from those who have had there tubes tied what recovery was like, how they came to that descion etc. I will be having a c - section due to PE with my last two so it is safer just to plan ahead and deliver at 38 wks my dr and i discussed when i talked about trying for another.

Changed our mind on that but fate had different ideas and now im preg so im thinking of asking my dr for tubes tied when i have the c - section. Has anyone had that done then and also how much does it cost?

I didn't think they would tie your tubes at the same time! I havn't researched it though so I could most cerainly be wrong!;)

My sister had her tubes tied when she had her 3rd c-section. She had 3 under 3  They didnt want to do it then so as to be sure she was making the right decision but she insisted. A few years later she did regret the decision and looked into having the procedure reversed (it was going to cost about $5000) but they advised her not to have it done due to the number of c-sections she had.

So from what i gather they dont like to tie the tubes once your near the end or something incase its all the hormones making the descion so im hoping if i mention it at my first appointment they may agree.

Still does anyone no the cost for one?

Good luck trying to get your tubes tied at your age! I have been wanting a hysterectomy for ages but they refuse because of my age. Basically they don't like doing any of those sort of treatments when you are still young because they are under the impression that everyone changes their minds.

Ooh yes as Chellegoth pointed out! I hadn't actually noticed, but you are going to have a fierce argument on your hands to get it done! Good luck though!;)

I don't mean to be rude but have you thought about other forms of contraception then? Their are many different types out on the market these days!;)

My mum had her tubes tied after having me... very bad labour and drs advised her not to have any more children.
In her menopause she had lots of problems and ended up having a hysterectomy during this the surgeon realised one of her tubes had been mistakenly sewn to her bowel, explaining a lot of the problems she'd experienced.
I think it would be much better for your DP to have the snip x
Sorry if I have freaked u out

Hi Rachel

I havent' had my tubes tied, and don't think I would ever concider it - just seems to final for me.

Me and my hubby will not be having any more kids, I had Isaac at 32weeks due to preeclampsia and hellp syndrome ( I was very sick and wouldn't ever go throught it again). My doctor said I would never be able to go on the pill again due to the bp issues.

I am going to get a merina next friday.

Wishing you luck Zoe

Like Bessie, my mum had her tubes tied after her 4th baby, aged 29 (though she didnt have a c/sec, it was a separate op), and then had endless complications which led to a hysterectomy about 6 years later, and then she immediately went into early menopause....this still makes her depressed :gloomy:

I would therefore avoid it all costs, though if, GOD FORBID, I end up with a c/sec and apparently needing a hysterectomy, I have discussed with the ob that I would rather them tie my tubes and patch my womb up as best as possible and keep it in place, to avoid early menopause......though this still worries me as he said that I might end up needing a hysterectomy in the long run, considering my mothers history.....so God willing that I will not have to cross that bridge, it would be one hell of a dilemna!!

Would not ever consider it. I hate the thought of my fertility being taken away from me.

I am going to have my tubes tied as soon as I can.

I have had my family and am finding it hard to cope with them let alone anymore.

My dr highly supports me with my decision and wrote a letter to the gyno who organises this with a highly recommended referral.

This was all going to happen a couple of months ago but I have since moved to another state so I am in the process of going to find a dr who can support my decision then referr me to a gyno here.

My dr told me that had I wanted tubes tied at the time I had the c/section they would have done it. I didn't know they could hence why I didn't consider it until after I had the c/section.

DP can get the snip when we are finished our family. Much safer and easier and probably cheaper.

My friend is 28 this year, and had her 4th c/s babe in February. She hadn't been told by her doc that she could get her tubes tied at the same time, but thought about it on the morning of her op, and asked, and they got the forms then & there and let her get it done! No probs for her recovery wise.....

I guess having had 4 bubs by c/s they couldn't really say anything, as to have 5 c/s wouldn't have gone smoothly, if she was to have gotten preggers again.

If i was to have another (which i'm not planning on, but if i did, i'd have to have a c/s as the other 2 were), i would definitely ask for my tubes to be tied. If it wasn't such a big op, and i was old enough i'd get it done now!

Oh, and my friends op cost nothing as it was done at the same time as her c/s. Don't know whether thats the same everywhere though?

Thanks everyone and shannon that was so informative. I think my dr will support me as after each bub she said she wouldnt reccommend me having more but another dr said hey your still young give it time:rolleyes: ( note that was a male who said that)

I had my tubes done when I had a c-section with my last which was only 3 weeks ago, on the morning of my c-section they asked me if I was sure that this was the last one and I said yes, definitely, so they asked if I wanted them to do my tubes while they were in there as it was only an extra minute to do so I thought why not. It didn't cost me anything, I was in a public hospital. My DH and I had decided that he would get the snip after this one but then when they offered that to me and they were going to be in there anyway, I thought why not, saves us money in the long run.

My recovery has been better than my first c-section.

I hope this has helped you in some way.

They did also tell me that if I decide down the track that I do want another child that I would have to go through IVF.

You have to think that with those few horror stories, they would have had their tubes done many years ago and they do it different now.

Good luck with getting want you want.

sugar, my mum had her tubes done after her 4th baby, at 37, she had them done like the day after baby was born, the only prob she had was a bit if staff (you know the "hospital infection") but was fine once she got home, my aunty also had he tubes done a few years ago, and is now currently trying for another baby *the fella shes with is about 10 years younger and doesnt have any kids yet* so they are doing ivf, - both women are now in there mid to late 40s and are fine, no menopause yet, all good.

i infact have just declared this as our last baby, (untill i get klucky again of course) so it has been decided that when i turn 30 one of us is getting done, and after many months of sweet talking dh and telling him how it is better for him to get done, i think its whats gonna happen. the biggest reason for me not getting my tubes done after this baby is cause i have been told that we cannot get them done at such a young age! - i dont know for certian, but i do know that if i do end up with a c-sect im gonna be doing alot of sweet talking to a few docs casue i really aint havin any more then! lol
