So my last thread was about taking metamucil whilst p/g for constipation. Now I want to touch on something similar.

When we were growing up and got constipated, mum would always say "Don't strain yourself or push too hard, you'll hurt yourself and get hemaroids(sp)".

I know that at least the majority or people do or have strained or gave a helping push to number 2 at some time, so if you do strain or push a little to give number 2 a little help whilst your p/g, other then getting yourself hemaroids, can this act do any harm to the baby or the placenta or the bits around that area?

It's not a common thing that I do but sometimes there is a feeling of needing to "help" it on it's merry way IYKWIM.

Sorry if it's to TMI.

Okay this probably sounds a little silly but get out your phone books and take them to the toilet with you and then when you are sitting on the toilet put a foot on each book that way your knees are up higher! Don't slouch on the seat and have an upright back!

Hope that helps a little!;)

I have magazines in my toilet which I read so instead of sitting in there thinking "omg I'm taking so long to poop" I read a bit, and it just comes when it needs to. :) (today I read about working mums..)

Otherwise I have no advice if pushing is harmful (sometimes I have a mega-poop and yes, I do have to help Mr Poop along a bit.. but I try not to do that, more for my own backside tho)

Pooping should not affect your bub building bits as long as you aren't doing the pop-a-vein in your neck type pushing....
