just recently ive been reading all sorts of stuff about this. like babies necks being out of alignment from birth and baby chiropracters claiming to be able to fix a massive amount of things from colic, reflux cranky babies to behaviour disorders learning disorders god just about everything in older kids. so who knows anything about it? like did it or didnt it work? what exactly did they do? anything really

It worked for us - well DD and DS!

DD had reflux and was a restless, chucky, crying baby for the first 4 months of her life. I did some online surfing about reflux and came across chiro care sites about reflux. We had tried nearly everything else so thought why not. It had an amazing difference - her reflux all but stopped and she was more settled.

We didn't wait 4 months before taking DS to the chiro - he had his first appt at 13 days old. He was the complete opposite baby to his sister. This may be co-incidence, or it might have something to do with his early chiro care...who knows?

Their treatment involved mostly massage and stretches, and the odd "click" with a kind of rubber stopper thing (that the chiro actually used on his hand that was over the part he wanted to manipulate, so no direct contact with the baby). Both of them would have a lovely big sleep after their treatments.

I swear by them. Chiropractor or osteopath. The chiro settled my reflux baby, I only wish I knew about them with my first two.

makes sense to me that their little backs and necks could be out of alignment, all 3 of mine have been delivered direct occciput posterior so they were stuck in the final stages for hours im just a little nervous i guess about letting someone muck around with their spines i guess.
where do u find one that specialises in babies and kids?
what made u go to one in the first place?

I rang our healthfund to see if they had a recommended provider who also specialised in paediatrics...

Then I rang them and asked them specifically about their experience with treating babies.

The chiro I chose was listed with our health fund, and he had over 20 years experience as a chiro, which included paediatric chiro...at our first appt he told me that he had treated his own children when they were born, and they are now grown adults, so I had confidence that he knew what he was doing and he did....

Its very gentle, its not cracking, its usually just tapping or massage.

I got DS checked over after he was born, I knew he was okay but I wanted the reassurance. Then he fell off the bed when he was about seven months old and he whinged for a day or so, and he wasn't a whingey baby, so I took him to the osteo and he fixed his neck and the whingeing stopped straight away and bubby was back to his sunny little self :sunshine:

I recently got him checked over again. He had a bit of a cold at the time and the osteo showed me how to help him clear his lungs.

havent gone myself but a friend from my mothers group swears by them...

they are also very good for bubs who have a preference for looking a particular direction resulting in flat head...i was going to take my DS for this reason, but he eventually loosened up on his own...

Interesting thread. I've contemplated taking my boys (particularly DS2) for a check.

I swear by them. I've taken both kids for a variety of issues, and, much like an adult one - if you find a good practitioner, they're worth their weight in gold.

I wish i'd taken DD when she was a baby. She had colic and was a screaming, demanding baby. DS we took at 8months for reflux. I was really hesitant and scared, but the chiro was wonderful. His reflux greatly improved within a month or so. I ended up making an appt for DD then, and her behaviour has improved. She is actually die for another appt next week, but has been acting up heaps so we are going on wednesday to see if that will help.

I can't reccomend it highly enough, just make sure they are experienced with kids. Ours has a kids room, with loads of toys and a special adjustment table for them - handprints and footprints of clients on the wall - its great.

I have been taking ds to chiro since he was 1 week old and I HIGHLY reccomend it.
most recently he went for a very bad fall on the chin which knocked his occiput and he couldn't turn his head. we took him to emergency and they did nothing, didn't even thing it was related . 2 visits to the chiro sorted him out and changed his behaviour from whinging brat (i guess i would be too if i couldn'tmove my head properly and was in pain!) to sunny little boy.

I had always been a bit dubious about chiropractors, but my bubs was very colicky/reflux prone - vomited all the time and wouldn't settle to sleep during the day. I took him to a paediatrician who said he didn't believe there is such a thing as 'reflux' and basically did nothing to help. Took him to a chiro and he began to settle straight away - in fact, he fell asleep in the car on the way home, which was amazing as he usually just cried. After two visits I had a happy and content little boy. He still vomited a lot, but it didn't seem to upset him anymore and he would settle for sleeps far more easily. I'd definitely recommend them, but i do think it's important to find a good one - get recommendations and make sure they are used to treating babies.

I swear by chiropractors. I've been taking my daughter since she was 10 wks old cos she couldnt raise her right arm or twist her head to the left and its made a massive difference. She goes every 6 wks and it helps her sleep and she's just a much happier. She is now 3 and a half and i'll keep taking her for a while. I went to a chiro thru my pregnancy with my daughter and i had no back pain thru labour. I also go every 6-8 wks and have been going thru this pregnancy (due in just under 9 wks) and its helped alot. So yeah it does help but some ppl dont agree with it...
