I have a friend who's hubby make's 38,000 a year. But they over estimat, they put down 50,000. Now she is ringing me day in day out saying she can't pay for her pills that she has to take and buy food.

If they put down what they really did make then they would get a health care card. I'm pretty sure that you can get a health care card if you make upto $42,559. (I think its more then that for more then one child).

Why do people over estimat by that much when they then miss out on a health care card. Or should she get one for the year after, as they made less the year before?

I found this myself - hubbies wage is always all over the place so its easier and better for us to over estimate dramatically than to possibly get stung at tax time with a bill. However, once I found out what the limits were for things like rent assistance, FTB B etc I was able to lower it to a limit that was still over estimating enough to give us some breathing space, but still receive those benefits immediately.

I'm still yet to work out whether we're entitled to a low-income health care card or not...

HCC are linked in with all the centrelink side of stuff not FAO stuff.

So even if you have over estimated your income with the FAO for FTB purposes you can still get a HCC.

I've done it before. I just had to report my partners earnings for the parenting payment side of it (even though i wasn't actually receiving parenting payment). i had our income estimated at about $54,000.
