Where do we start?? If we have a son we would like him to be circumcise. The birth will be at a birth center, who do we ask the midwife?

Hi ontheway....Im just going on my own experiences of having 3 boys and 1 girl... you are doing the right thing by getting the info you need now instead of after the birth!! makes things alot easier.

I think your best bet is to ask you GP or whoever you routinely see. You could ask your midwife but it may be worth getting a feel of what her opinions on it are like first.

It may be worth calling your local community health care centre, I think most areas have one, they are usually where the community nursing services are based.

If you call around a few of your local hospitals they may be able to put you onto a Dr who does them as day surgery through the hospital

As youd imagine youll get all sorts of reactions from the anyone involved in the op. Best thing is to completely and utterly ignore them and only tell people if it is absolutley necessary...

hope this helps, and be prepared that you may change your mind as soon as your baby is born - some mums are deadset on circumcision before the baby is born but as soon as they see their defenceless little bubs they decide not to go through with it! - this happened to my sis in law, her son is now 13 and she regretted not getting him done after the first year...and still does!....apparently her son revealed to his dad that he thought his penis was deformed when he was about 5 or 6 because it wasnt like his dads. This comment came when the boy was 10 or so and had prolly seen his mates willys in the loos ar school or something and realised he was ok...she didnt
think to explain t to him when he was younger...she didnt really know how, everything is ok now but my sis in law feels terrible that he thought something was wrong with him for a couple of years of his life......

anyway, good luck with everything, most importantly I hope you have a painless quick birth resulting in a beautiful healthy pink or blue bub!!

I agree with lizzo, be careful who you ask about it. We didn't need a referral where we had our son done, so didn't need to get "permission" from the GP. Actually, when I DID ask her about it, she said she didn't know who did them, and the guy ended up being less than a km away from her office. I found our guy in the yellow pages and had a consultation appointment before having it done. I was ALMOST one of the mums who decides against it once the child gets here. But 7 weeks on, he's been fine and I'm glad its over and done with.
