centrelink can be so unreliable! But sorry cant help!
JET IS FANTASTIC!!!
Just give Centrelink a call and tell them that you want to get Jet assistance. Someone will probably call you back but just make sure that you hassle them. You know what Centrelink is like!!!!
I pay $2.00 per day for my son to be at daycare so it is an incredible saving!!
Good luck and if you need anything else just let me know!!
Yay for JET....thanks for making childcare affordable for us students!!!:smiliedance:

Thanks Bishmum. I will Ive joined a jobnetwork Ive waited 10 weeks with no assistance apparemtly you have to wait 3 months before they help you. So the job searching isnt going well. But Ive decided I want to study again and being a single mum not sure if I can afford childcare cos I have no one that can watch the kids for me. Then mums friend was telling her about JET and wondered why I didnt get it. I pay up to $200 for 2 days at the moment for chilcare and its killing me. So its good to know I may be able to afford childcare and study.

I've never heard of JET, is it for sole parents only?
No, not just for sole parents, but you need to be unemployed or studying ....you can have a look at the Centrelink website and search for JET.....couldn't get the link to work.
I just had a look at the website and it actually says it's for sole parents but don't let that dismay you....my friend receives it and she is partnered!
Good luck

Hi
You have to be receving a parenting payment which I believe is paid to single and partnered people to qualify (there are also other pension categories that are eligible). You also have to be doing an "activity" which can be either job search, working or studying. Depending on the activity determines how long you are able to get JET e.g. you couldn't get it indefinitely if yu are not working. I believe thedurations are 20 days jobsearch, 6 mths working and not sure about the study aspect.
I only found out about JET thru someone else. Was never advised by Centrelink so it pays to ask. If you are studying there is also a Pensioner Education supplement ifyou are a sole parent. Its not much but its purpose is to assist with fees etc. Of course being on a pension, if you are studying at TAFe you should also get a discount on fees.

you only have to be a parent to get JET assisantce i switched to youth allowance about a month ago and still get JET funding for childcare. im partnered my DP gets parenting payment.

Jess
Not all parents can get childcare otherwise it would be universally available and paid the same as Family Tax Benefit A & B. I would say its either because you're on youth allowance. Don't know what you switched from, or because your partner is on parenting payment.

i was on parenting payment but when i applied for jet childcare i was told DP could get assistance if he wanted and he was on Newstart:confused:
i was told if you get a job you can get up to 20 weeks free childcare and its a block u cant spread it out.
studying parents have the option of spreading it out. its also changing in june i think fees increase

I have hear that there will be some changes to the JET program as of July this year when Welfare to Work comes in................. my advice would be to ring up Centrelink ASAP and make sure that the changes will not affect your plans to study
