Hi would anyone be able to tell me if you can buy Zantac and Losec over the counter or do you need a prescription?
Does anyone Know a good paediatrician in Melbourne?
Thank you. I'm desperate and confused one doctor told me that my boy had silent reflux and colics and put him on mylanta. Today we went for a follow up and this doctor told us he's healthy and just an unsettled baby one of those who cry all day.
Help anyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:crying:

Hi Alexandra,

I had one of my twin sons on Zantac which didnt work, i now have him on Losec and its been great. Both of these need a prescription.

You dont live far from me so i can reccommend Keilor Road Medical Centre.

There is a doctor there called Dr Michael Howson, he is great alot of kids go and see him, i heard about him through a friend who heard about him through mothers group.

They are at 161 Keilor Road, Essendon North 9379 3021.

See how you go

From what I've heard reflux is a bit of a contentious issue, one paediatrician I heard doesn't really believe it exists, at least not to the extent it gets diagnosed these days, whereas other paediatricians seem to diagnose every baby that cries or vomits as suffering from it (my understanding is that to TRUELY diagnose it you need to look down their oesophagus to see if it's inflamed, a very invasive & painful procedure, so it doesn't get done much). My daughter also got 'diagnosed' when a couple of months old on the basis that she possetted a lot and cried a lot, but I was really really reluctant to put her on medication. Eventually after talking to stacks of people I cut dairy out of my diet (she is breastfed) and she improved a lot. Now she is 9 months and still vomits ALL the time and I'm back to eating dairy but she is no longer fussy - where does that leave the reflux theory in our case? - I'm not sure. So if I were you I'd really be a bit cautious about a quick and easy reflux diagnosis. Not to say there aren't plenty of babies with a genuine problem who are helped by the medication, but there are so many other mysterious reasons why they cry too apart from heartburn!!!

Just want to say thank you for your support. I finally found a paed. ( the third one i've seen) who would hear me out and not think that I'm just exaggerating. He prescribed zantac and Ar fourmula so we'll see how we go.
thanks girls
