Hi, I live in south brisbane, pretty near to southbank and am wondering if anyone knows of any mum and baby groups nearby? I have found a few playgroups but none that cater to young babies. I moved to Australia last year and don't know many people (all my family are in the uk) so would love to get out and join a group. My little girl is 3 months and I really want to start taking her to places where she can be around other people and lots of babies.
My main problem is that I don't drive so am relying on being able to walk with a stroller, or get public transport.
If anyone knows of any groups or activities we could join in with please let me know :)

Hi, it would be great to meet, I know one other mum with a boy a little older than my daughter that might want to come along as well. Would somewhere along the southbank work for you? I'll leave this thread open and see if anyone else might want to meet as well.

Wednesday is good for me. Morning or afternoon? There are quite a few cafes along Southbank that we could sit at easily with strollers. Anytime from 10am is good for me.

Wednesday morning would be great. Cafes may be a little hard as some of us have toddlers. I don't mind meeting up in Southbank...might even catch the train but we'll see. There is a playground in Southbank that the toddlers could play on & a nice grassy area to sit at so we can keep an eye on them. Let me know what you think :)

That sounds great - I guess I'll have to get used to thinking about toddlers soon :) I've only just got used to thinking about the stoller! It's amazing how many of my favourite places are off limits now I have the stroller to fit through the door. Which playground is it? I know the one down by the boardwalk cafes?

Doesn't matter :)
Is it ok if I invite a couple of friends who have older kids than our babies? One has 2 girls & the other has a boy & is pregnant with #2. Just thought it'd be a good opportunity for everyone to meet & get out of the house. Let me know what u think.

That's fine by me. I don't really know many people here at all (moved here last year, all family in the uk), so it would be great to meet people.

Can we aim for 10am? DS1 usually goes down for his nap around 11am but I can stretch him till about 1-2pm. I may be running late cause trying to get the 2 organised can be hard some days but will definately be there around 10 :)

It's the playground just past the paddling pools near the beach, towards the Mater Hill end of the southbank, just behind the boardwalk cafes (near the bike/pedestrian bridge). It would be great to get as many people as possible. I've found a few other things in the area but none which mums with other young babies go to.
Looking forward to meting everyone, see you at 10ish :yelclap:

:D If it's any consolation I'm 32 (omg I still can't believe that can be true, having Eerin has made me feel like I'm about 10!) :D
As far as I'm concerned the only good thing about turning 30 was that I'll never have to do it again!
Have a great birthday, hope to meet you another time.
BTW If anyone is looking for other things to do and can get into the southbank easily other weekdays as well, the State Library has a kids area called The Corner that has activities at 10am weekday mornings, Mon is yoga, Thurs is rhyme time, both suitable for toddlers and babies, and the city library at the other end of Victoria bridge has rhyme time for babies at 11am on a Friday, I've been to the city library one an hoping to try The Corner a some point - when I can get organised enough to get down there ;)

Hey, I don't know how many other people made it down today, but I seem to have missed everyone
I was at the playground at the far end of the southbank (towards the maritime museum by the boardwalk cafes) at 10am, I waited until about 10.25 and then wandered through the southbank to check that I wasn't in the wrong spot, and then realised that there was another playground by the beach. I was there at about 10.30 for about 5 mins and then went back to the other one again for a while. There were a couple of other families at each but I asked them and none of them were you guys
Did I just miss everyone when I was wandering between the two? Which one did people go to? I hope other people managed to meet up okay and we weren't all just wandering round on our own all morning
Anyway I hope anyone that did meet up had fun, and if anyone wants to do it again I would still love to meet - maybe next time I'll give people my mobile number, and now I know there are 2 playgrounds so that should make it easier to meet! :)
Please write back and let me know what the rest of you did :D

I was there but must have missed u. I got there about 10.30am & i was with hubby. We let ben have a play in the park near the pool behind the cafes for a bit & then we took him to see the big ships. Probably a good thing we didn't catch up though cause it turns out Ben has tonsalitis.
Hi just wondering if you still meet up? I have a 3 week old and really in need of some more social interaction. Where do you meet

Hey Jasserben, sorry I missed you, you must have got there as I was walking between playgrounds. Sorry to hear Ben is ill, maybe we can try again when he feels better, I would still like to meet up with people.
Hi Kated83, we haven't actually managed to meet yet, but I have a 3 month old and am also really needing things to do and people to meet :). Southbank is easiest for me, because it is walking distance but I can get the train elsewhere, can't get my stroller on a bus very easily though, and I don't drive.
Becnash, Kaidensmum, Liss05, if you're still interested in meeting up I would love to as well.
If anyone does want to meet most days are fine by me, but I usually try to go to the rhyme times at the state library on southbank on thursdays (all ages 10am), and the one at the city library in George Street on fridays (0-2 years 11am). The one on thursday can be a bit loud and busy for young babies, but the friday one is quite small and quieter, and is in the children's library room, so there will be things for older toddlers to do as well. If anyone fancies coming along to either of those next week we could meet there and perhaps have coffee afterwards?

Oh I would be interested in an excursion into the city for the Friday thing at the city Library at some stage. Wouldn't mind checking it out as my little girl is 5 months now & is really alert. Also what does the Yoga entail as that one sounds interesting to me!!! Bit scared though as I haven't caught the train with a pram yet!?!? I think I am free this Friday...

Hi Ladybugblue, I am defintely going to the library on Friday if you want to meet up? The friday one is quite nice and quiet but fun, my 3 month old has just started to take an interest (more in the other children and toys than the rhymes, but she loves being out of the house :) ). Do you want to meet? It starts at 11am, we could meet outside just beforehand?
Not sure what the yoga entails, but it says suitable for all ages including babes in arms, but it might be busy and noisy. I'm really keen to try it out so maybe we could go together and see, if it's not suitable we could always go for a walk along the southbank instead.
I've caught the train with my baby before and found it quite easy (a lot easier than the bus anyway), she seems to really enjoy it, along as it's not a really long journey - about an hour s her limit I think :)
Is anyone else interested in coming along?

Yea sounds good I will come along this Friday & check it out. I don't know where the Library is but I am sure I can find it. Can meet you out the front of the kids room or the library? I would certainly be interested in checking out the yoga providing the whole train experience goes off without a hitch the first time!!! ;)

Hi Mel, I just found one of those baby rhyme things at the Carindale Library which is closer to me & apparently it is especially for babies under 12 months. I was going to check that one out instead of the one in the city as it would be one that I am more keen to go to on a regular basis. Sorry to bail on you. But I am still very keen on the Yoga so if your interested on going to that one on Monday (was it???) I'm keen as mustard! Get back to me.
BTW my name is Paula :)
Hi all. i havn't poped yet,we're due on the 4th of decmember but I could really do with some social interaction and advise from all the mums out there on just about everything. Do you mind If I come along to the next one?
When is it?
-Renee
