Empty Boobs.....

Odd Question...

Has anyone who has breastfed their second or subsequent babies found that your boobs didn't feel as "full" as they did first time round?

My boobs used to feel really engorged while I was feeding DD1 but this time I feel "empty" yet seem to be producing just as much, if not more milk than last time. DD2 is extremely satisifed as far as I can tell, she slept 8 1/2 hours last night and she is only 3 weeks old (i'm sure that it was only a one off), but is usually feeding every 3 1/2 to 4 hours and is settling well after feeds.

I am not too concerned but just wondered if this was a normal thing for boobs to do?

god i hope that's true! i have cut down to just 2 feeds a day for the last 10 days or so and they still feel like I could feed an army (of babies that is)!!!

i'll be looking forward to feeling less full for bub #2!!!! :p

For the first few weeks of breastfeeding I did get a lot firmer than what I do now and I'm producing a lot more milk now than what I did then. I never truly got engorged. I had midwives telling me that my milk musnt've come in as I wasn't engorged. I knew better :). As long as your child is happy, healthy and gaining weight then I wouldn't worry about it :)

Very normal!! Unfortunately they are still the same size (i.e. very big) they just don't feel as full!

I didn't get engorged with my 2nd either (though she was a very hungry baby and fed a lot! milk came in on day 2) but definately didn't feel so full, so perfectly normal, guess your body is more used to it.

Thank god for this thread, I've been worried about this for weeks! My DS is very happy, settled and is putting on weight but my boobs just aren't the same as with my DD. I thought I might be loosing my milk but after reading this I feel so much better! :D
