View Full Version : debit or credit?
i have just got a visa debit card
do you think it is a good idea?
i hate credit cards...
Hi Kymmy,
Both my husband and I both have Visa debit cards and they are fantastic! I've had mine for about 6 years and I'd never have an actual credit card again.
We can never spend more money than we actually have this way and there's no monthly bill to worry about either. But being a Visa card you have the advantages of being able to purchase things over the phone or on the internet.

I have had my Visa Debit Card for a few years I have never needed a credit card. I love it! It is great cause I dont have to carry cash around (I would just spend it if I did) and you dont get eftpos fees  I dont like giving the banks unnecessary money
i know what you mean
i will have to activate that card AsAp
Oh yeah Allie, I forgot about that other advantage of using the option button on eftpos machine for credit and signing for it and avoiding transaction fees.

Thankyou
Thankyou Debit card, you let me buy online
Thankyou Debit card, you dont let me get into debt.
Thankyou Debit card, you dont charge me fees
Thankyou Debit card, for protecting me from the evils of your nemesis, the credit card
Thankyou Debit card, for coming in pretty colours
Thankyou Debit card, for not making me feel guilty when I use you
and finally......
Thankyou Debit card for not making me pay you back.
Sorry, strange mood today:D
i hate credit cards...
That's the point - it's NOT a credit card. You use your own money, ie your account has to be in DEBIT for it to work. A CREDIT card is when you spend the banks money and then pay it back with interest.
It's a great idea - no interest payments, but the freedom to shop wherever Visa is accepted.

How do you get a Visa Debit Card (my university recommended i get one because I hate credit cards and a lot of payment options for online things accept Visa)???????????????????

Hello! I've had my Visa Debit card for nearly two years now and I think they are brilliant!
I've NEVER had a credit card because I can't stand the thought of paying that much interest!
Suncorp does them, but you have to have an account with them for at least six months before they'll give you one. ANZ has a Visa Debit Account and there's no waiting period and you can get different coloured cards - I have a pink one!

When you buy something on credit card, you usually end up paying 1 and a half times the actual cost of the item.
Plus.. if you have a debit card you REALLY think twice about wether you need the item or not cause it is YOUR money you are spending and not the banks.
makes a big difference.
if you can't afford to top up a debit card with $1000, then you can't afford to have a credit card.

I was with NAB for years and changed to ANZ last year, we changed everything eg homeloan, bank accounts, business account and creditcards. They are great, the fees are not too bad but their customer service excels

Does anyone know what happens if you have a personal loan with one bank (eg Commonwealth) and then you want to switch to another bank? How do you go about making the repayments etc?
For serveral reasons i am getting sick of commonwealth.....not just cos they dont offer debit cards

your account must be in credit not debit, it will get rejected otherwise.
......this is what you meant:p
