I'm thinking to do up my kids bedrooms. The plan is to put their favourite toys in their room (not too many, tho') and leave the rest in the play room to play together.
So I bought one bookcase each. I was gonna put books on the top shelf and toys on the other shelves. Tables and chairs in each room. Do you think it's too busy?
At the moment, while their bedroom are painted in blue for ds and purple for dd, it's so bare. There are only bed, wardrobe, and that's it. I hate it because it feel so cold and empty, esp with the tiles floor. So I bought some rugs, too. I just wanna add a bit of 'fun' in their room.
Do you think it's a good idea or should I stick to the 'bedroom is for sleep' thing?

DD1 had toys in her room because we lived in houses where there wasn't really anywhere else for her to have them.
these two I have stuck to bedrooms for sleep and they don't have toys in their rooms. I can see that this will change as they get older though. DD1 has things that she likes to keep in her room.
depending on the books I would consider having them on the bottom shelf though. you want to have the weight to the bottom of the book shelf as much as possible so that it is less likely to tip over.
have fun with it, I am sure the kids will love it.

We don't have any toys in bedrooms because my kids used to get out of bed at night to play.
Please keep in mind that chairs and tables are a dangerous without supervision. My DS jumped off his toybox when he woke up one morning and cracked his head open.
You probably already know that bookshelves need to be attached to the wall to avoid toppling.

He could have jumped off his bed and done the same thing.. Awful when they hurt themselves but if its gonna happen its gonna happen..
Everything is dangerous without supervision.. lol
Cant wrap them in cotton wool forever..
Thanks to limited space (a 2bd unit) DD's room holds pretty much all her toys bar a box in the lounge room....
At our old house we had a spare bedroom and lounge area, so she had a gigantic play area.... unfortunately this is all now condensed into one room.... so whilst it is a little busy, it is well layed out and not "too much".....
There hasn't been any sleep issues, mainly because she ends up in my bed more often than not anyways....
And she has table and chairs, a coffee table, blanket box, mini tramp, step stool and a reasonably high bed, and we haven't had any issues..... she's been taught how to use them all properly and is a reasonably cautious child....
Sounds like a fab idea Ang.... giving them both a little bit of fun personal space and then a shared space as well!
DD has soft toys, and glow bugs a few books and thats all, She has a toy room though, but when next bub comes along this will no doubt change.

We have most DD's toys in the Toy Room, but she does have bookshelves with some soft toys and books on them, and also a toy box with a few things.
I think it sounds like a nice idea to liven their rooms up:thumbsup:

The girls share a room (it will change when they're older) they don't have any toys in their room apart from some teddies and stuffed animals on their beds) there isn't alot of room in their bedroom with bunks and a cot anyway (though Skye won't be in th cot forever)
They have a playroom (which will be Skye's room when they're older and have their own room) with a few toys in there such as a doll's house, toy box with a few toys in it, alot of their toys are sorted into containers and in the cupboard coz its a smallish room. Tey also have a tv and dvd player in there too.
Also theres a bookshelf in the toy room too.
