In need of some hints/tips/advice

Hi,

I am looking for some hints/tips/advice on feeding my DD EBM.

She will be 3 weeks old on thursday. I didn't try to feed my DD1 EBM until she was almost 7 months old as I didn't have any need/desire so subsequently was unable to get her to succesfully take a bottle.

I would like to be able to give DD2 a bottle of EBM if necessary so that I am able to go out if something exciting comes up (like the Wiggles concert in dec, I'm hoping to take DD1!) Not that I am keen on leaving her at the moment.....I'm not ready to share her with anyone yet!:laughing:

So I guess I'm asking when did you start or try to introduce a bottle to your baby? How old were they?
Do you have any tips or advice on how to be succesful?

Hi there,

I can't offer any concrete advice, I am sorry. But I am interested in what others might say.

I think there is a fine balancing act between introducing a bottle early enough so that they will accept it and not introducing it too early so that they will refuse the boob. :(

I left my DD with my DH for 2 hours when she was about 5 weeks old, and of course he thought she was hungry :rolleyes: (and maybe she was), so he got some EBM from the freezer and she accepted it no problems. SInce then there has been little need for the bottle, and she is a bit hit and miss. He tried giving her EBM last night (as I will be going back to work one arvo per week in 3 weeks) and it was a disaster!! refusal, coughing, spluttering, slow teat, fast teat. Nothing seemed to work. Of course it probably didn't help that I was still home...she knew the boobie was right there, why would she want plastic??? :p I sort of wish I had had DH give her one bottle a day from a younger age...but I was worried about breast refusal. My DD is a fussy eater though. Maybe you will have no problems.

I am interested to hear what others experience has been.

DS took a bottle of EBM fine at 5 weeks but at 5 1/2 months refused it and would only take boob. It isn't an exact science :confused:
