Hi,

I had Gestational Diabetes with DS and managed to keep it at bay with diet and exercise. I lost 16kg after I had DS and am now 17 weeks pregnant with bub no. 2. My OB has said that the weightloss will help my chances, but of course doesn't guarantee that I won't get GD second time around.

I've been quite sick with m/s (was much worse with DS), but have been eating alot to keep the nausea at bay, so I feel like I've already started to overeat!!! Last OB appt. I hadn't gained weight, my next appt is this Wed, where I think I have gained about 2kg in 5 weeks.

I am now at the point where I am feeling much better and m/s has pretty much gone, so can start to eat healtier and also feel I can make a good start on exercising, in hopes that this will help me when it comes to my glucose tolerance test at 28 weeks.

Just wondering if there's anyone out there who had GD with there first and didn't have it with the next pregnancy/ies??? Or anyone had it with second/all pregancies????

Thanks muchly

Hi,

I didn't with DS1, did with DS2 (managed with diet only too) and haven't this time around. I was very surprised when I got my results this time as I hadn't managed to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight or any regular exercise so felt like I would. Well done on your weight loss. I am actually missing having the GD this pregnancy as it did force me to eat much better and I must admit to some over indulging this time round that will be hard to lose again!

Good luck!

Hiya :) When I had GD with my 2nd pregnancy both my ob and endochronologist(SP?!?) said that the chance of having it again in future pregnancies was pretty much guaranteed. Hope it isn't that way for you :) All the best and remember if you do get it again then the best time to sneak a choc is after your lunchtime prick test ;)
