View Full Version : Foods that cause wind
Hi,
Can anyone tell me what foods cause wind in babies. I have been told to watch my intake of green vegetables, cabbage and foods high in sugar.
My daughter has a lot of wind during the day and often wakes up to pass wind or burp.
Thanks
hmm they also say chocolate... BUT I think that some babies are just windy... and you just have to take what you are given... Knowing my DH... I really should have been expecting a windy baby
(my midwife also said to avoid too much oj... apparently it can change the taste in your breastmilk??)

I was warned not to eat to much chocky because it can give the baby a rash too!
Spicy foods and curries arent ment to be great either...
Anything with to much sugar in it makes my baby poo green instead of yellow (sorry if TMI), Ive been told they cant process the sugar that gets passed into the milk...not sure if it affects the wind though.....

Some of the things I remember that gave my daughter wind are (as the other girls have mentioned): Cabbage, garlic, onion, spicy food, beans, green beans, cauliflower, softdrink, and brocoli.
Oh and I nearly forgot the worst culprit for giving my DD wind was milk and milk products. She had a hell of a time if I had any milk in my diet. I had to switch to soy milk.

dairy is the biggest offender, pretty much anything that will upset your tummy or dosnt agree with you will have a good chance of upsetting your baby. I dont believe anyone thing causes wind in all babies.
I have a high intake of green veggies so much so my EBM was tinged green, my boys had a little colic in the early day, but that is related to immature gastrointestinal tract not my diet. I also eat a fair bit of chocolate but I make sure its lindt or the similar 80% as its less sugar. And stimulants like tea and coffee are said to be causes too.

I've also heard that peas are a bad one too.....either you eating them, or also your kids when they're older.
Things I've found with EJ are - raw/slightly cooked onion, cooked cabbage (dimsims especially) & eggs (they react with me and cause gas also in her)
My BF's brothers girlfriend says also theres a preservative in commercial breads 2?(not sure of number)2 that also caused gas.
Hey,i personally think everyone is different and it is all trial and error. I eat chocolate all the time and ds isn't effected by it. (not heaps but a little bit every few days or something). I also found that bad attachment led to bad wind. Also if i took him out on a windy day he got really bad wind. I was making myself crazy trying to figure out what i had eaten, cuz i ate exactly the same sorta food for like three days and he had really bad wind on only one day. Also if something gives him wind, and you think it could be that but aren't sure, try it again a few days or weeks later, but keep eating normal foods that don't effect him, just in case it isn't that. But also saying that, i think garlic, beans etc will give anyone wind so stay away from the obvious wind makers. The worst thing i have eaten was sausages, it was horrible!!!
