The carseat i have rear faces till 12 mths, i would like to keep Jaylen rear faced till 12 mths as its safer but i no that when they get to around 6mths they love looking around and sitting up in the car so i will keep Jay rear faced around 6-9mths or as long as his happy being rear faced.

Hey Bel,
I'm not looking to turn Evie until I have to, JMO I would definitely wait till he is 9kgs or 70 cms as you never know he may plateau in weight for a little bit possibly? But I would definitely be waiting until he reaches the 9kgs or the 70cms
Oh for sure i wont turn him until he is over the weight.. but he has been putting on approx 300 grams a week.. hopefully your right and he will stop...
but do i turn a 4 mth old?? if he still goes the same trend as he isnt far off 70cm either

What a tall boy, have you spoken to a GP or CHN they might have more of an idea yeah i just realised he was only 4 mths this month, :detective: I would definitely ask the CHN cause yeah turning a 4 mth old wouldnt be good.
he's 3 months 4 at the end of the month but my DD wasnt his size until summer.. i hear other say they turned bub at 4 months dont know what to do?

there are new rules coming in which state that you need to rear face bub till 12kgs or 12mths. Your DS is far too young to turn. If i were you i would buy a safe and sound car seat which rear faces till 12kgs. I have the meridian and it is a great seat but there are cheaper options too such as the babyove ezt switch which rear faces till 12kgs too. He is far safer rear facing and it will be awhile yet till he is 12kgs.
pm me if you want some good sites about the car seats. :)
Brayden was 19months before he reached the weight limit (12kg) so he went straight to a maxirider then.... rear facing as long as possible in this house :)
Harlan will be turned when he reaches 12kg too.
i turned my dd round at 7 months and she wasnt the 8kg till she was 1 but i had to turn her around cause she was lifting her up to see things and i thought it would be better to turn her around as for the 12kg rule i havent heard that in tassie but my dd is 3 in december and only 11kg so i really think depends on the child not the weight

the safest weight rear facing in aus so far is 12 kilos. This is when I will be turning bub. not a moment before unless she gets so tall she doesnt fit(and I doubt it) its safer to cross bubs legs over or for them to touch the seat than it is to have them forward facing with such fragile necks.
I keep my bubbas backwards as long as possible. I would say a cheap backwards facing seat would be ten times better than a u bute expensive one that has a bubba in it that has a neck not strong enough to withstand an impact.
I researched this with DS2 who was big.
The reccomended age for turning a large baby is 12 months later for small baby's
They all stress a cramped baby with hurt legs in an accident is better than a spread out baby with serious neck and brain injuries.
Do u maybe know anyone with a rear facing carseat that u can borrow or buy for cheap. As long as u know the history second hand is just fine.

Hi Bel,
I was having the same questions regarding the car seat issue so I did a bit of a search and found this link which helped to cement my decision. Wont be turning DD for a long time now...(even though I desperately wanted to as she hates facing the back!)
