Hi Everyone
With alot of consideration I have decided that I need to start taking the Duromine that my doc prescribed.
I currently weigh around the 124kg mark so have alot to loose.
My concern with Duromine has been the side effects so my thinking is to take them every second day instead of every day.
My question is has anybody that has used / using duromine had success and how soon did it start to work.
TIA

My friend took it...although she didn't need too.
She lost about 20kgs - I would say she started out at about 80kgs.
She said she felt like she was "on the go" all the time and found it hard to get to sleep.

I took it when I was younger and lost about 10kg on it (which was more than enough at that stage of my life, lol).
I then took it again later in life and built up a resistance to it very quickly so it didn't really work anymore.
I then took it again after I had DS2 and I deeply regret taking it. I was in the throws of PND and this was the wrong type of drug to be putting into my system at that time. It sent me into a downward spiral and set me off on a drinking and smoking binge.
Just be aware that it is an amphetamine based drug, it's like taking speed (which I have done in my younger days and I can honestly say that the feeling from the two drugs is very similar). It's not a long term solution. when you stop taking the drugs you will get your appetite back and chances are you will regain the weight plus more. Sorry to be a downer, but it's the truth - I've been there, done that, several times over.
I know how hard it is - I've recently lost 20kg and still have 25kg to go, when I started I was clinically 'obese', probably still am. It's bl00dy hard, but personally, for me anyway, drugs aren't the answer.

Thanks for the replys. At this stage my options are drugs or surgery. I am battling a never ending battle. I have just been diagnosed with insulin resistance so on drugs to control that aswell. I'm hoping with the duromine that it will give me a kick start. I know it's not the solution, but just for the kickstart and energy I'll be happy. I have my gym at home so hoping to get into routine and stick to it when i stop taking the drugs.

I took it a few years back and lost 7 kg- but that was it- stopped coming off after the 7kg.
Dont drink on it- MEGA WARNING!!
I went out for my brothers 21st and consumed a bit of alcohol and it wasted me- I have memory blanks and everything and it made me crook for about 4 days after.
I recommend it to give your weightloss a kick start but not longterm.
When I stopped using it the 7kg went back on within 2 months- but then I did not try hard to keep it off either!
Goodluck with it.
From what I understand the ingredients have changed and it is no longer like speed as someone else posted. It works. There are some side effects that last a couple of days but then your body gets used to it. Just remember to drink alot. You might not feel like sleeping much at first but this settles down. If you have energy go for a walk or do some sit ups.
You need to decide if you want to deal with some side effects for a few days or you want to end up with diabetes from not loosing weight? Peoples bodies can react differently to drugs though so i would just give them a try.
It is still important to eat right though as all they do is make you feel not hungry they dont make you burn the fat off.
I am on them atm if you need anymore info just PM me.
Good Luck

duromine is a stimulant LIKE speed/cocaine/MDMA etc.... as is caffeine
i havent gone on it.. i've thought about it but decided against it when i researched it a little bit. (and studied the effects at uni)
as a short term energy boost to get you motivated i dont see the harm... but i would avoid using it for long periods of time.
have you tried other energy boosters?
(*I HATE herbalife on principle) but they have a product called NRG and OMG that stuff makes me move! and its all natural.
WYLD is also good for me with motivation and energy.
sorry if thats not the info you were after.

Quick update. One week on duromine and 3kg lost. Fingers crossed for another successful week this week.
I am taking both Duromine and Diabex so hoping it will give me better results.
Good luck. did the doctor say why they didn't prescribe Reductil instead of Duromine?
My doctor said Reductil has less side effects and is a newer drug.

congrats on your pg lealea, maybe keep duromine in mind for after bub is born.
jesska yes to my knowledge it is only used for obesity, but a friend of mine has just been put on it and she only has about 12 kg to lose. Doctors normally go on your BMI to see if you fit into the category for using it.

I only had 6kg to lose to be a "healthy weight" and my dr gave me duramine. I took it for 1 month and lost 9kg. I had no bed side effects. Slept like a baby, no "speeding" effect etc.
Seems everyone reacts differently to it so ur taking a risk buying it. Im glad I took and because it was only short term I wasn't to worried.

There are some dodgy doctors out there who will prescribe it to anyone - a friend in the healthy weight range is on it... because he wants to be skinnier.
It DOES have some pretty bad side-affects, and it's not healthy to be taking.... but I guess, once you're 124kg, you need SOMETHING to push you down a bit.
I haven't been your weight OP, but I have been 110kg at my highest point (and that wasn't during pregnancy, so I can't blame that!), and I know how it is. Maintaining weight is always so much simpler than losing.
It might be a good way to kick start your weightloss - but it's definitely not a long-term thing, nor is it going to help you reach your ideal weight.
Good luck! :)

I have taken it before, and it definatley does work. I took my every second day as i wasnt sleeping much (would average 4 hours a night if lucky).
I found the best way to take it was as early in the morning as possible even if you go back to bed as it can take a hour or so to kick in.
Take it easy thou as i was soooo moody and a real b@tch.
I stop taking it after a month as my DF couldnt handle me anymore as i was causeing arguement and he said it was like i was being "taken over" by a She-devil:yes: I lost 10 kilos in 4 weeks (was 80kg and drop to 70) but the effect it had on my realtionship just wasnt worth it.
The best thing i have taken for weight loss in Reductil, without halfs as many side effects:thumbsup:
Feel free to pm me if you need to ask anything :)
Can someone who has taken it pm me with the costs of duromine and reductil?? My doctor has mentioned them to me but didnt take it further as he was worried about the cost of it not being within my budget.
Thanks.

I was on this med for a while.
Duromine increases your heart rate, therefore you burn more calories.
So you need to take advantage of it by taking it early in the morning and if you do your excercises in the morning you will without a doubt burn a lot of extra calories throughout the day as long as you keep moving.
I also found that not eating after 8pm helped the weight fall off. If I got hungry, I'd have a large glass of water with a big spoonful of psyllium husk mixed into it which fills you up but has 0 calories.
Goodluck:hugs:

I took duromine back in 2004 when I weighed 75kg (am 160cm). My doc said I could only take it for a maximum of 3 months due to the long term side effects & it being bad for your heart (if I remember correctly). Anyway, I lost 15kg in the 3 months and have kept it off ever since.
I have just had my second baby in April this year & am finding it a little harder to lose the weight this time around. i have just signed up to be a Herbalife distributer (to help with the mortgage payments!!) & am taking the shakes "in addition" to my normal diet to test them out (only taking the shake, plus protein powder & the multivitamins - no crazy amount of pills). I am still breastfeeding so I dont want to lower my calories, so I am trying to just eat healthier food plus sample the shakes I will be trying to sell.
