Yesterday I met an amazing woman. I wasn't going to post anything, but I haven't been able to stop thinking about her, she really touched me and I need to share.
I was talking about my experience with my baby Noah and she shared her story about having a baby conceived in rape.
I would never have known by looking at her that she was a victim. She was strong, brave, courageous and beautiful. She had a gorgeous little girl who obviously meant the world to her.
She just well, amazed me. I have met women that have been raped before but never a woman who had a child out of rape.
She said that having an abortion would be like being raped again and that her daughter is what helped her be strong and work through her trauma.
I really just had to share. She was just phenomenal. It really opened up my eyes.

She would be much stronger than I... I've not been raped, but I don't really want a baby now, much less one as a result of being raped.
I'm not sure I'd be able to look at my child and not think about the way she was concieved.
It's lovely that having her daughter helped her to deal with it though. :)

I'm not sure I could keep a baby that was conceived due to rape but there are people who can.
ml2tope - this woman sounds amazing. Thankyou for posting about her.

This is one of those situations that you have to experience to know what you would do.
I have been raped and I know that I could not do this. I made sure that I didn't need to go through the trauma of an abortion after being raped by taking the morning after pill.

She isn't a victim she's a survivor and that's the difference. More power to her.

wow she sounds amazing.
I hope that her strength keeps on keeping on!
Survivors dont look a certain way. I dont think you can tell a survivor by looking at one. All of them are beautiful and strong.
Anyone who goes through Rape and is able to pick up the pieces and keep going, is strong.

One of my besties from high school was raped & fell pregnant. Giving birth to a son who is now 9yo.
She goes on about me being so strong, yadda yadda, for having such a big family but to me she is a perfect example of strength and courage in a woman, someone I hold a lot of respect for.:hugs:

WOW - is all I can say.
I agree, that until you are in this position you would not now what to do BUT I could only imagine what a DIFFICULT DIFFICULT decision it would be to make.
BUt good on her for not letting "it - the rapist" take 2 precious things from her...
My heart goes out to the woman and her child - amazing lady :)

Can I ask if your friend what she's told her son about his father? I imagine that would be difficult as well.

I too know someone who had a child as a result of rape, and she is very much a strong woman and her daughter is the world to her. She always responds to the question "why didn't you terminate" with "she was my growing baby, and while she is part of him, she is also part of me, and I couldn't bare to give that up".
Such an amazing woman and she has the most precious relationship with her daughter, who is now approaching her early teens.

I know a lady who's first sexual experience was being gang raped at the age of 15. She fell pregnant and was kicked out of home because she would not have an abortion (abortion was illegal back then, but she received permission from the government to have one). She went and lived with other family. She had a little boy and gave him up for adoption. She then went back home, resumed a 'normal' life and went on to get married. After getting married she had a daughter and then went on to have 4 more children, all boys and all died not long after birth. To know this woman is to know true strength and courage
I have no idea what I would do. Hopefully I will ever find out :fingerscrossed:

That is amazing.
My mum was coerced in giving up her child at 17 cos they said it would just remind her of the father.

I often wonder about this too as I know as he gets older it is going to come up at some time. But she has not told him anything yet and as it is not uncommon to not have a father around anymore it hasn't been an issue yet.
My freind knew and knows the rapist but he is unaware a child resulted from it as are the rest of that "social" group.
She never pressed charges after finding out how hard and humiliating and pointless an excercise that can be. :(
